Muh themes!
@TheHappySpaceman
Just listened to it. I LOVE it! I almost feel bad making suggestions, because this version absolutely works as-is.
I’m not extremely familiar with either song, but I was imagining two things:
  1. The steel drums accompanied by the “Let the bodies hit the floor” whispering, and
  2. A call-and-response between “Now watch me yuuuuuuu” and “nothing wrong with me”
So what I’m imagining now is 1) serves as the intro (and possibly the outro), then there’s a tempo change as what you sent me kicks in. It looks like Crank That has a higher BPM than Bodies, so I would imagine the floatiness of the steel drums clashes too hard with the driving rhythm of Bodies. If you can find clever ways to weave the vocals of Bodies back into the song, then go for it.
Overall, I’m very pleased.
Edit: having let it sit, the intro is great as it is. I wouldn’t mind hearing 1) for the fun of it, but the current intro probably works better.

Oh really, mate?
Did you literally stumble right out of your mother’s womb listening to metal? Did it completely and relentlessly take over your life from then on, grasping you in its clutches and refusing you access to anything else?
I love metal, but I also love music in general. And I believe true, good, curious metalheads aren’t afraid to expand their horizons.

Thanks for the feedback! I’m definitely gonna incorporate more of the original vocals in there as well. As for the steel drums, there may be a way of putting them in the background during the final pre-chorus as well. IDK, I’ll have to see what would work for adding them.

Mashups are pretty cool but never as good as the songs used, and I’d probably enjoy the Crank That Soulja Boy + Bodies if I was seven years old (because I cannot stand either one of those songs). I remember years ago I watched this youtuber, TheTaskmaster, who did all these Megadeth + Metallica mashups. Those were fun to watch.
And I believe true, good, curious metalheads aren’t afraid to expand their horizons.
I used to be one of those metalheads who only listened to rock/metal (now it’s just prog rock and some classic rock). It’s so hard to find obscure music even with the internet, and I can’t stand anything mainstream written after 2000 with it’s shit lyrics (about sex, drugs, money), minimal beats generated on a computer, with no musicianship involved (even the songwriting isn’t good anymore). I don’t know if anyone else has trouble getting into other genres of music.

I am a listener of many subgenres of rock and metal, but I also dig jazz, raw blues, and electronic music to name a few (though a lot of the latter is pre-2010s for me). When I was a teenager, I already didn’t listen to any modern pop (still don’t that much, TBH) - I was a dyed-in-the wool 60s/80s classic rock person, and by the time I was in my early-mid 20s, there was indeed a period in which I listened almost exclusively to metal music. I remembered soon enough, however, that it’s good to have a good balance between genres and branch out. Ask any good musician too - there’s a world of influences out there that can be applied to the music and styles people remain most comfortable with.
Think I got a bit rambling there. xD
Still, hope I got my point across

I’ve always thought about trying to get into jazz music (since a lot of my favorite bands were influenced by it) but don’t know where to start. I thought electronic music was cool until I realized the artists weren’t playing any instruments and did everything on a computer (they still wrote the songs but I could not get into Aphex Twin when I tried listening to him), though I don’t think all of them are like that. I hate pop music, always have, and I never liked the idea of record companies telling artists what they can and cannot create, forcing them to change who they are to sell out, and the fact that musicians don’t even own the songs they write, which is one reason I don’t bother to make music. I think one reason I hate pop music is because I’ve been around toxic pop fans (though every fanbase has it’s toxic fans as well as their good fans) who worship artists because of their looks and popularity, will not shut the fuck up, and can’t handle any criticism.
I’m sure there are lots of great artists out there, old and new, that I haven’t listened to yet. I just need to dig deeper.

i quite enjoy listening to song mashups too, i mainly look for rock &/or metal mashups (that sometimes get mashed with pop which if a good or ok song which isn’t a deal breaker) & if well edited & synched can be pretty awesome.
& i saw that Crank That + Bodies mashup months ago & i hated how well it worked XD
i created a playlist on my YouTube filled with song mashups i like & happen to have a few of those Metallica + Megadeth mashups in there (TheTaskmaster really does do a lot of good mashups with them).

Man, Wild Cherry, the guys behind Play That Funky Music were really one trick ponies huh? Listening to their other singles, it was clear that they were pigenholed into a novelty genre mix that wasn’t gonna last the end of the decade. I will say that their song Hold On is really so bad it’s good on how they tried hard to be England Dan & John Ford Coley.

Bad taste in everything
@Manerg
The easiest way to get into jazz from a rock background is probably jazz fusion. That was my gateway to jazz, anyway.
Also plenty of electronic musicians play instruments. Mostly synths, obviously, especially in the pre-computer days. But you also have people like Squarepusher who is a pretty talented bassist. Here he is playing with his live band. His music is also pretty jazz-influenced, while the subject is still on my mind. Idk, though, I don’t let people not playing a real instrument bother me. If it sounds good, it sounds good.
And the whole thing with labels and people not owning their own music, I think, is a trend on its way out. Even a lot of pop musicians these days own their own labels. It’s no longer the thing only indie hipsters and punks do.

It’s amazing the school would even allow that. I remember when I was a child thinking what if Metallica (the band I grew up listening to the most) showed up to my school and performed. That would have been amazing.
