Except for “Don’t Tell Me” those were the only songs I had heard from that album.
American Life was much better. I listened to it a lot as a preteen.

I’m not a fan of “American Life” to be honest, just didn’t seem Madonna-ish. At least “Music” had her experimenting with different styles that were popular at the time like party jams, early 2000’s country and techno. I will say though that I like the song “Hollywood” from AL and I wish it became a hit.

I think Katy Perry losing that lawsuit sets a dangerous precedent to where even if songs aren’t the same, you can still win a lot of money just by having a similar chord progression.

My top favorite hair metal bands, ranked:
- Mötley Crüe
- Def Leppard
- Skid Row
- Guns N’ Roses (listed at a reasonable 4 because I’m not sure if they count as hair metal)
- Whitesnake

True, though they were close enough in their lyrical themes and image that they sadly didn’t survive the rise of grunge.

Well grunge didn’t completely destroy them cause their albums Use Your Illusions (both I and II) were hits and it gave us November Rain, one of the biggest hits of 1992 and one of their most beautifully crafted songs. Same goes for other bands like Def Leppard, Van Halen, Aerosmith, U2 and Bon Jovi to name the most notable ones who were still getting hits by the time Kurt pulled the trigger. Granted they changed styles and were changing with the times but still.

Ehhhh, grunge didn’t really go into full swing until 1992, and even in 1993 hair bands were still having some success without changing their style (“To Be with You” by Mr. Big is an example). I also wouldn’t consider most of the bands you listed to be hair/glam metal (with the exceptions of Def Leppard and Bon Jovi), unless you were just listing rock in general and I misunderstood.

I was being vague and referring to the popular bands before ‘91 that were still household names by the time the classic rock bands finally stopped being famous in the new millennium. Even then, as much as the claim that grunge killed hair metal or those bands sounds true, it didn’t destroy completely, but it did change the landscape of rock for the rest of the decade.

And until now, sadly. It feels like rock music can’t be fun or upbeat anymore without being pushed into the “pop” category.

I’ve always wanted to do this. Whenever I see people wearing band shirts whether they’re rock or metal, I want to blast a song or two on them wearing shirts of their specific band name and see how they’ll react.

Did you know that some Mario music took inspiration from some Japanese pop music in the 1980s
Mario Starman theme is based on “SUMMER BREEZE” by Piper
The main theme of Super Mario Bros is based off a portion of “SISTER MARIAN” by T-Square

Oh my god, Old Town Road, get off the number one spot already! You’ve been hogging it for about 4 months, let other songs have their turn. Billie, Shawn, Camilla, Lizzo or even Lil Tecca, take the number one spot away from Lil Nas X, please!

I was expecting Georgia and Illinois to be rap/hip hop and Washington to be more hard rock or even rock.
