I’ve always had the issue, I just fought them on a character and was reminded of how much I hate the the fight.

Idk, I always thought it was a balanced fight aside from Ornstein’s buggy AI.

Darkeater Midir is the hardest fight of them all.

Eh, he’s not hard, just long, with a ton of health.

Punishes you for staying locked on.

Punishes you for never locking on.

Punishes you for having a distance from him.

punishes you for running past his head.

Could be just that my playstyle does go with these pieces, but he is absurdly hard for me.

That’s why you don’t lock on. If you learn how to deal with the patterns it’s just a long fight.

It just seems unnecessarily bad design that your own wiki says to not use one or the other.

It’s just that the boss is so big, really. Also, not locking on is usually how a lot of people play DS1.

I always played locked on. It seemed more practical to me then trying to aim my character so that their swings hit the target.

Well, not all fights are created equal. I don’t think a fight that needs you to keep lock off is necessarily badly designed.

I hate covenant item farming.

Fought and killed a few times, yes. The darkbeast are the worst offenders, though.

Annoying. Something that big and has so much hp shouldn’t be so hard to hit.

I think it’s the best dragon fight in the series tbh

I mean, there isn’t much competition for that to be frank.

There is some charm in the theme of how futile it should truly be to fight something so powerful as a dragon.

While that theme is inherently a bit frustrating, I could appreciate it for that theme. But it should feel futile because Midir himself is that strong, not because he messes around with the mechanics of the game.
