Ideas that You Just Can't Get Out of Your Head

I actually started some Flockmod scribbles for it.
 
 
(number 3 looks super important but actually only features here prominently because of his distinct body shape. Another 4 versions (pirate/guard Pip, civil Pip, soldier Pip, post-apoc Pip) look very similar to versions 1-2 in different outfits.)
 
Anyway, I feel like I should ask for advice on this - especially from savvy people like ABIHP.  
(I’d ask other creators like King-Koder or AGM if it didn’t feel like I’d just be bothering them.)
 
I worry if I should keep this its own story, or even bother tying it to the FOE expanded ficverse.
 
For me it’s like the latter only comes with drawbacks:  

• I’m not even a fan of FOE. Good English writing skill aside, I don’t like the militaristic moral message of it, the unlovable and bland characters, the too much fanfic canon that come from neither MLP nor FO.  
• I don’t like all of its fans; I fear for humanity over some of the comments on King-Koder’s comic, and worried about the hate I might get from them.  
• I’m not that well versed in its canon and I’M not reading it 10x again to make sure everything matches. I’ll need the help of a friendly FOE fan (I hope I can find some) only to proceed.  
• Naturally the same preexisting canon also limits a lot about what places I can explore in my own story.  
• I will be advertising a fic I don’t even like.  
• Possible accusations that I am “stealing” someone’s setting, as if I had a need for that.
   
  So…why bother?
   
  Because at the end of the day I’m a fan of co-op and community projects, and shared memes.
   
  A few years back, people were excited about community projects. I wonder if that has all but died out by now.
   
  I want to stress that it was never intended as a primarily FOE story. It is a Pipsqueak story.  
  Since the canons (about wars and such) matched up it just seemed like they could be paired up, but at the moment I’m more inclined to drop that connection.
   
  To me it may seem far less of a hassle to just tie this to a different canon - Starlight’s alternate Euqestrias for example. (Which to my knowledge have never been much utilized in fanfiction.)
   
  Anyway, what is “PIP”?  
  It’s intended as an adventure/coming of age/grown-up&dark but optimistic/heroic story, in a comic format, with Pipsuqeak as the lead protagonist.
