I think I’ve figured out part of why I like drawing girls more than drawing guys. And the reason… is kind of embarrassing.
 
I can’t draw ears.
 
Really, I have always sucked at drawing ears for some reason. Most people struggle with noses, but for me, it’s ears. But you want to know one way of getting out of having to draw them? Draw characters with long hair that covers the ears. And there are more female characters with long hair than males, so…

When t comes to humanoids or anthros, I hate drawing arms or legs, or making full arms for hands, so I prefer long sleeves and pants so I can avoid dealing with arm and leg proportions and so I can have hands be separate and not have to connect them.
 
I do this with EQG and every time I do anything furry I much prefer long sleeves or ANY sleeves as opposed to none.
 
Longer hair to cover a lot of things like shoulders or ears or necks so they can be made more lazily is nice too.
 
Clothes are my key for hiding shit tbh, even in ponies, or furries.

I made a bunch of these, and this one has been like 99.8% done since last March, I just needed to fix a couple small things and that took me until a few days ago to do. Lazy me.

I used to really struggle with hands. I’ve been cheating as of recently and just using reference photos of my own hand.
 
But yeah, I’m with you in terms of laziness when it comes to drawing stuff I’m not good at. Maybe I could also start drawing hats on male characters or something, for obscuring the ears.

If you want me to be perfectly honest, the outside shape of the ears are usually okay, but it’s the inside that bothers me. I always make it either too detailed or not detailed enough, and it always looks super unfitting, hence why I prefer drawing characters with long hair that covers the ears.

It’s not cheating to use photos of your own hands, I’ve done that, and it’s very smart. imo anyway

I’ve heard some people call it cheating, and while I don’t really believe it, I kind of just go along with it in a self-deprecating sense.

Heavily referencing something is a must. How else can you make believable lighting, texture, shapes and even style if you have nothing to refer from?
 
Beginners like me can’t just draw from imagination and hope it comes out right.

See how others have done it if a pose has you confused.
 
And as for hands, why take a picture when you have a perfectly usable reference model on the end of your arm?

Maybe he wants to see the hand at a certain angle and that’s why he needs a photo.

I tried coloring that doodle from last night. It doesnt look bad, but I hope it doesnt look too busy either.
