None whatsoever. I’m terrible at effects and non solid. There’s a reason I only made a simple smoke in my pic here.

Yeah I do that all the time but I’m trying to do a big piece and it has fire and smoke.

I typically just do a vaguely wriggly gray shape with a blur and gradient transparency, if that helps :D

It’s actually an ongoing series of tutorial books. There’s 3 volumes out so far, with a 4th volume coming very soon. The only way you can acquire the books is through Kickstarter, and that won’t be until March. since I want to do my own AU and stuff that is show accurate (because it would be so cool to think that the characters were in the show or idk)
 
do you ever feel that if you want to do your own background, whatever for an AU, comic, fanfic, etc. it’s always hard to come up with where to start or what to draw?
 
because there are so many ideas you can start with you can’t pick just one or if you don’t know you have to fight laziness or you are too overwhelmed especially when you don’t have a specific reference without ponies in it or you don’t have the right image for a show accurate house texture, such as victorian houses (that are fully shown and not just part of it) or whatever.

Yes. the planning phase is the worst because that’s where you gotta piece it together. Artist block is always my default state of mind. The way to fight it is to just draw something and realize it won’t even come close to what you want. But then with that out of the way your mind is getting accustomed to drawing, and you start getting into the flow of things.
 
You can always revisit so it’s okay if your first 100 attempts aren’t show accurate / possible in-universe etc.
