Now that the deadline has passed, I’m so used to seeing OC images with transparent backgrounds being uploaded that I assume they’re late entries to the collab.

I don’t have a problem with its existence, I just don’t think it should ever be used in a serious context.

What’s important to remember is that Comic Sans was created for a specific environment, namely aliased bitmap font at around 12pt. At that resolution and scale, certain aspects of the font that are derided from a design standpoint today actually work in its favor:  

 
But then it suffered the fate of any decorative font included in widely-distributed software, and began to be used in contexts where it didn’t work so well, like banners and wedding invitations and caution signs. The “Jazz” font from the Finale sheet music software’s a lesser example of this.

Strange thing is that in my home town I had never seen any incongruous use of Comic Sans, so I don’t have any reasons to hate it. Here it is more true for Times New Roman.

Same. I got sick of Times New Roman in school.

What I really don’t understand is the fact that in Russia all official documents should necessarily be written using Times New Roman, although in year 2010 its government paid money for creation of free (in all meanings of that word) font named PT Serif. I mean, you’ve made this thing, you’ve paid for it, and then you had forgotten all of it and choose to continue paying money to Monotype Imaging? That’s the most odd decision I’ve seen in my entire life.

First I directly derail the thread with languages and now I do it again indirectly with fonts.

Am I the only one who wasn’t properly instructed on cursive? Can hardly read it and definitely can’t write it

I’m sure there are other people who are in the same boat. I mean, I don’t know how to write cursive that well, so….

I’ve taught myself to write cursive in one day. 🤔 If we are talking about the same thing, of course.

Ah, cursive is a dying art, like carolingian cursives (the default way I write by hand), but I guess it comes with the decay of the use of font pens. Here we had to write all in cursive at schools during the first 7 years, and from the second semester of the 1st year we had to use font pens up to the 7th year included. Only on highschool one was allowed to write in other ways and with rollerball type pens.
