So, Charlottesville’s University Hall (often shortened to U. Hall) was demolished yesterday. The hall used to be the home for UVA’s basketball games, as well as numerous concerts.
Gotta say, while I never attended any events at U. Hall and don’t have any personal attachment to the building, I remember it being a staple of the Charlottesville horizon since my parents drove me through there when I was a kid. It was awfully surreal watching the video of it being demolished, and it’s going to be rather surreal no longer seeing it as I pass through town.
It also kind of sucks, because the building was really nicely designed but was built with cheap materials and wasn’t created to last more than fifty years, hence why it was so structurally unstable during its later years, which I assume is why they took it down. Really signifies this country’s desire for cheapness over quality…
I don’t know. I’m rambling.
