I hear it was a precious archaeological site, and a thriving city in late antiquity (and turf to queen Zenobia, one badass woman). Such a shame to see the spectre of war put its filthy hands over such a culturally interesting region as Syria.

Whenever I listen to this song it always feels like I’m on the receiving end of it, except I’ll never actually be able to hear it from the one I’m thinking of, because she doesn’t exist and never will.
 
And I feel like at least a few of you will know who I’m talking about.

I’m worried about my teeth.
 
They aren’t super messed up or falling apart, but I’ve been having occasional sensitivity issues that only get worse when I actually decide to brush.
 
Even with an untrained eye and a mirror, I can see things that I’m sure a qualified dentist would tut tut at.
 
Though I guess its a moot point for now since I have no insurance.
 
So I guess i just have to make an effort to keep brushing, flossing and mouthwash-ing and hope for the best until then.

How’s public dental care in the USA?  
My country gives you full dental care as part of the country’s free health service, but only as long you are registred an could prove you cannot afford the private service. And even if you aren’t elegible for total coverage, the country still takes care of a large chunk of the expenses if you still use the public medical service.

It was bad before and made worse by Trump. I lost all health insurance and my company is not legally obligated to give me insurance so I have to pay everything out of pocket. Just went to eye doctor and spent $100 for a quick exam. MAGA!

Couple years back I wanted to donate blood plasma, but the facility wouldn’t let me until I released my medical record to ensure I was clean. Okay so I call up my family doctor to release it. Well I hadn’t visited him in months so he said I needed to get a check up. Wouldn’t release my records until I did.
 
So I go there alongside my mom for her check up. She’s covered, I’m not. I ended up paying $100 to the receptionist, waited like 30 minutes in the waiting room another 20 in a back room before he finally could be bothered to see us.
 
The son of a bitch didn’t do anything for me. He didn’t ask questions, didn’t check my blood pressure or weight, he didn’t even look at me once! So we finally get out and the next day I try going back to the blood place. The damn quack didn’t even release my records. Tried again a week later and he still hadn’t. I had to call the jackass and pick up the records myself to hand deliver them.
 
The entire process took like a month. And I effectively paid $100 just to waste my time on to visit doctor who didn’t even know I was there to “update my record”.
 
American healthcare is a joke, and the punchline is on us.

In my country we have private health (expensive) and a public health service funded by our taxes. If you are unemployed, you have full access to a lot of 100% free medical services, starting with urgencies and life-threatening diseases, and you can receive free medicines for some diseases and treatments as well.  
Now, if you have a job you must pay for your medical attention, but the goverment still covers a large chunk of your medical costs, and senior citizens get even more benefits.
 
Years ago I broke one of my premolars and since I didn’t had the money to go to a dentist, I went to my local medical center to get it pulled out. Long story made short: they saved my molar, and gave me an appointment for a full dental checkout, and then a full dental service. I was asked to bring my own towel and plastic cup (to rise my mouth during the treatment) and make a voluntary donation of… $100 pesos, aka $0,17 dollars.

I’m of the mind that all your “must have to survive” resources should be more or less free/government funded. With all the accoutrements, electives, and finery being something one must work for.

I missed the chance to apply for my company’s insurance and must wait until application is open again.
 
I assume I just go to the same people i always do after that.
 
Also, I sincerely thought health insurance was not the thing everyone would zero in on.
