Being a user of the Internet, I ended up reading a lot of stuff about the eclipse today.
Said stuff included the fact that it’s possible for retinal damage to occur from looking at the sun without you ever realizing it’s happening, and the fact that the symptoms often only appear the next day.
So now I’m sitting here at 3 AM, paranoid as fuck, almost scared to go to sleep, because I know I definitely looked at the partial eclipse without proper eye protection more than once today. I don’t think it was ever for more than 1 or 2 seconds at a time, but I’m still kind of worried. I’m not currently experiencing any adverse affects (close to 13 hours after it happened), but again: apparently the signs of damage can sometimes only occur the next day.
I know I’ve definitely looked directly at the sun in the past and haven’t experienced any lasting damage, but it’s definitely never been for more than like a second at a time, and I’m worried that it could’ve happened when I thought it was safe to look (my thought process basically went “if it doesn’t actually hurt to look at it’s probably alright”).
I guess we’ll see. (Or maybe not, lol)
