First canon female Doctor. I doubt a special made for charity would be considered canon to Doctor Who.

I, honestly, do not know why so many people are complaining that the doctor is now a woman. As if making a character a woman is immediately appealing to the SJW crowd.  

 
Demands that can be ignored at will.  
Nobody’s gonna make the doctor a black trans muslim woman. At least not while black trans muslim women are a tiny minority.

I’m pretty sure people are happy with it and the only ones who are advocating for more (arguably wacky) inclusion are those folks at FemFreq.  
If anything, that people are laughing at alleged haters, who are complaining that the doctor is now a woman, may imply that they’re happy enough with it.

Well, if Doctor Who didn’t make the doctor a woman, people would still end up complaining that the show is too male-oriented, a perception that would increase over time.  
IMO, making the doctor a woman is good to prevent things from going stale.

I admit I’m not familiar with the series, but I can’t imagine how that’s going to change the entire series to be less “male-oriented”.

the perceptions that this is nothing else than virtue signaling. That is ALL it is, and when their viewership and popularity goes down they will blame the “misogynistic cis white males”….

Assuming she isn’t going to be anything like Fem Thor. I personally don’t see what’s wrong with a female protagonist.
 
I guess people’s attitudes towards female leads in major franchises have been soured by the poor writings of female characters like Fen Thor, Fem Ghostbusters, and the Mary Sue protagonist of Star Wars. The bigoted mindset of third wave feminism which has been main driving force for pushing these affirmative actions over the recent years haven’t helped either. Modern “Social justice” has really done more to encourage discrimination and resentment towards minorities than it did to help them. And we were so well, no thanks to them!

Fem Thor has been mostly redeemed with the reveal that her attitude is because she’s on a bit of a power high going from near death cancer patient to a god and it touchy about any idea of going back to that, Ghostbusters has been mostly appraised as being meh with terrible marketing, and Rey has better explanations for everything she does than Luke or Anikin did, and she doesn’t get handed crap and has legit set backs, making her not a mary sue,

I actually liked Rey. I don’t think she was worse than Anakin or Luke.  

 
I’ll come forth and disagree.  
If it wasn’t for social justice, we wouldn’t be complaining about racism within police, for example. We wouldn’t have solved the segregation problem.  
I think it is, honestly, just naive to believe american society is perfectly equal.  
I mean, sure, sometimes people drink too much kool-aid. But i don’t think third wave feminism and diversity are inherently bad concepts.

are you joking? Fem thor is nothing more than a woman being pigeonholed into a role that isn’t even a legacy character….THOR IS A FREAKING GERMANIC GOD not a TITLE! Oh also what about the feminist rhetoric that she spouted in her comics or did you forget that fact? Ghostbusters was nothing but trash simply for the fact that it was moronic attempt at virtue signaling and self-masturbating of feminist rhetoric. AS for Rey…..she was an ABSOLUTE mary sue with NO FAULTS! NONE! ZERO! ZILCH! She became an INSTANT master of the force when even Luke took YEARS to fully master it! You don’t know what you are talking about!

God I am so fucking sick of my dad. He always yells at me for making even a slight mistake at work or even at home.  
He asked me what I was going to do when he dies and yelled at me because I had a hard time opening a box of batteries one time. And today he yelled at me because one of my socks was loose.
 
I really wish there is a way I can get back at him or let him know what a douchebag he is to me.

I don’t think Rey was a mary sue character. You don’t always need faults to make a character relatable.

Maybe one of you who are so terribly triggered by Doctor Who, Star Wars, etc, etc, etc having a female lead - or even just a female in the title shot - should create a thread for it.
