The city of Roanoke, or the college of the same name? Because goes either implies travel or permanence

Roanoke College is my alma mater, I went there for 3 years. Wonderful college, prettiest campus in Virginia. Though, it is actually in Salem, not Roanoke.
 
 
On his own or from the college? It’s too early for him to be doing his May Term, which is when the college sends your ass to another country for a month to study. I went to Sweden.

Ah. Interesting that it isn’t located in the town it’s named after. Wonder why that is.
 
I actually don’t know. I think it’s for academic purposes, but I don’t know whether it’s college-paid or what. I know that his parents are very rich, though, and he took last semester to travel the world, too.

Salem used to be Roanoke, sort of, the college was built in the 1842 when the area was then known as “Big-Lick”, with the college taking on the same native American name of the local river, Roanoke. The city got the name Roanoke in 1882. Salem was a lot smaller, and located right outside the Roanoke area. In 1953 it annexed the area that the College was built, thus making Roanoke College a Salem property.
 
So technically, the College had its name before the city.

Thanks for the history lesson! I was curious about that. I can’t really think of similar situations, though I know that in Missouri there’s a city called Kansas City.
 
And yeah, I sometimes wish I were in Ben’s position, getting to travel the world, though I would not be able to access the internet for a long time.

You can just guess how much people freaked out about it despite it clearly being humorous and not meant to be taken seriously.
 
And when I posted yesterday about how I wished people had told me that life would only get worse instead of saying that it would get better, they were just like, “Life is getting better, you have it easy and you’re just a frikkin’ pessimist.” Sure, that’s a good thing to say to someone who is depressed.

I feel like the people who say “You have it easy” or “LOL, first world problems” don’t actually care that you’re depressed. They just want you to shut up. But this is not good treatment of someone who is depressed and can only lead them to be even more depressed rather than helping them get better.

I really hope you get better. Even though we only talk online, I hate to see anyone be severely depressed, especially someone as quick-witted and funny as you.

People on the internet can be dicks. Also, I’m sorry to hear about that :( And the people telling you that are assholes.

Don’t mind them. They’re just trolls or easily upset people.  
Everyone should care for other peoples’ depression on the internet instead of saying hurtin’ words.

Likely they’re just easily upset. Ever since one person who was popular there started getting overly offended by some of my posts, the entire site essentially turned against me.

Thanks. I’m glad someone thinks I’m quick-witted and funny. And yeah, it’s been happening for a while, mostly caused by my parents . I put on a happy demeanor to pretend to everyone that I’m alright; nobody wants to hang around a sad guy.

And speaking of pony, there is a popular MLP group on DA called MLPlovers, and the owner of the group is being an idiot.
 
The group claims it accepts all types of MLP art no matter the quality or subject, and yet the guy has a massive hateboner for Flash Sentry and FLashlight, and keeps deleting and denying any art on Flash or Flashlight. And when people call him out for it, he blocks them, and told others to report the people calling him out.
