It’s more that writers missed the point of things like Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen and took them to mean “dark and edgy is great”, while misunderstanding how those works USED the darkness and edginess. Which unfortunately still happens even now.

Glad Marvel doesn’t fall into that shtick.
Because if it wasn’t for you-know-who, superhero movies that are R and PG-13 won’t be lighthearted and instead be dark, and the only way to be lighthearted is if the movie was PG or G.

I like that song, but the auto-tuned section just throws me off everytime I listen to it. IMHO, it would’ve been better had the singer’s natural voice for that part. Still a pretty great song otherwise.
Drops of Jupiter by Train is another song with a similar situation, though primarily due to a weird verse that tries to do a food analogy that just doesn’t work at all and sounds more awkward than anything.

In Mad Love he came off as more of a liar than crazy.
Harley quinn was so crazy she actually frustrated the Joker who turns out to take his image and work very seriously.
