Pretty much. I’ve seen people remark/complain that Imagine Dragons is heading that way as well.
That’s part of the reason why I mentioned it. It may be a serious song, but it’s also fun to listen to. Even heavier songs can still be fun to listen to, like Voodoo by Godsmack. Unfortunately, it seems like much of the music industry has forgotten that rock can be anything other than serious, heavy and depressing. I mean, Weird Al was able to make an excellent speed metal song about a fucking hardware store, making fun and silly songs is perfectly fine.

Of course, it seems like part of the reason why is that anyone who tries to make a fun & energetic rock song these days quickly gets labeled as “pop” by fans and/or music stations and shoved off onto the pop stations, or otherwise gets pushed in the direction of making more pop (or pop-like) music. It’s the truth, sadly. I’ve seen bands like Maroon 5, Walk the Moon, and even our local legends Parachute start off as good pop rock, but unfortunately due to how the industry works fall further and further down the pop rabbit hole.

Land of ConfusionHeh, it’s funny you should mention that one, since it’s actually rather serious lyric-wise if you listen to it. It has themes regarding war and politics, and a music video to match. Though I will agree that it is quite energetic and upbeat musically. Hell, I think if we are going to have more songs about depression and stuff, we should have more that are like that, where the music is way more upbeat than the lyrics.
