The main reason everyone blew up about the short was...

It was released right after the official announcement of the end of FIM. It just lit the fuse of an already unstable explosive. I’m sure if it came out a few weeks from now, or even just a week, it wouldn’t have been as bad. Still some outrage, but not as much nor as crazy.
