There other factors going into it like population/immigration and such and both countries where already at eachothers throats, but the World Cup match was the breaking point.

Yeah I know, the reason why they were at each other’s throats in the first place was because illegal immigrants from El Salvador crossed over to Honduras which put a strain on the economy and relations between the two. The qualifying matches, which El Salvador won btw, was the straw that broke the camel’s back and they both fought.
