I’ve been staring at this thing for a while, and I can’t figure out if I like it or hate it. I generally like the 80’s sci-fi look, particularly the continuous belt line and the fastback, but they could have added another polygon or two. Maybe flatten out the hood a little to avoid that windshield pocket you’re describing, and bring the windshield peak forward to allow for a section of flat roof? And I’d definitely to be curious to learn what the driver can actually see.
I’m generally skeptical of Tesla, but I’ll play a little devil’s advocate on this one. To a couple of your points: any pickup is going to obliterate a pedestrian, so that’s not unique to this one, and I’d argue that most pickups can’t practically be accessed from the side anymore. Agreed on the weight and glass area, though. And I still hate the “tablet as everything” interior.
If it can live up to the specs they’ve quoted, (and I’m taking that as a big if) it’s technically impressive. A 500 mile range almost completely eliminates range issues, 3500lbs payload/14,000 towing is definitely capable, 0-60 in 2.9 is definitely fast (though pointless), it looks like it could be solid off-road, and the pricing is in line with gas pickups. If I was absolutely required to drive an EV, I’d probably go for that one.
Also, I didn’t realize how big this thing actually is sitting on its own:
