Gonna be excited for Mach E GT. I hate touchscreen fad though

The only reason it is a mustang is due to the rear tail lights. Ugh. To me the Mazda looks better. the side profile of this new SUV looks like so many other generic design

They maybe they could have negotiated with GM for “Electra?” sounds like “electric,” fits their E-for-crossovers name scheme, and would be named after a plane from the same era as the Mustang.

Cloud connectivity and modems? Who spends so much time in their car that they’re worrying about internet connectivity? And if you do spend that much time in a car, you’re probably road tripping cross country, so wouldn’t an electric be out of its element?

Ford claims a 300 mile range from the most efficient Mach-E. A cross country trip may be doable, but you would need to plan a route and stick to it or you would be stranded out on the plains. My regular car has a 500 mile range and can be refueled in 5 minutes. Battery technology has a ways to go before it’s equal to ICE.

I just found it strange that Ford is pushing cloud connectivity and interior technology as a main selling point of what they want us to think is a performance vehicle.

The Mach-E is made in Mexico, by the way. Teslas are fully American.

I dont think EV’s are fully capable yet. In 5-10 years though, they might be starting to compete with petrol cars in the sense of range and rechargeability.

Forgetting about Mach E, I am holding out for the Lincoln Aviator hybrid with the huge torque figures (above 600). The touchscreen on that isnt nearly as big. Just sat inside a 2020 Nautilus and I’m very impressed with the interior.

My Explorer’s old wheel bearing after grinding to a hellish sounding halt. Both sides of the bearing looked like this. The bearing has been replaced at a shop but I still have to put the hub on the car. I also had to replace the tie rod since the grease was leaking.

I’ve always found the “off-road” EVs to be particularly ridiculous. Last thing you want to take out to the middle of nowhere is a vehicle that could run out of battery due to a miscalculation or unforeseen event and leave you totally stranded with no way to charge.

Electronic gimmicks that will just end up outdated, broken, and rigged with issues few years down the road. That is what “luxury cars” basically are now. Everything is just bloody neutered.

I’d imagine the presentation to be like when Blizzard revealed their mobile “game” Diablo Immortal.

I refuse to believe that ridiculous pile is a production ready vehicle. It’s not going to be sold for at least a few years, during which time Tesla will have to make changes to bring it back to the realm of sanity.

The “Cybertruck” is an assault on common sense and good design. The front is a plow to pulverize pedestrians, the pyramid shape cuts into headroom, the windshield is absurdly huge which makes the cabin hotter and almost impossible to clean the inner edge, you can’t get into the bed from the sides, you can’t see out the back, the body panels are made of needlessly heavy 3mm stainless steel, and it looks like the whole thing was designed by a kid with a straight edge after watching low budget 80s sci-fi.

I’ve been staring at this thing for a while, and I can’t figure out if I like it or hate it. I generally like the 80’s sci-fi look, particularly the continuous belt line and the fastback, but they could have added another polygon or two. Maybe flatten out the hood a little to avoid that windshield pocket you’re describing, and bring the windshield peak forward to allow for a section of flat roof? And I’d definitely to be curious to learn what the driver can actually see.

I’m generally skeptical of Tesla, but I’ll play a little devil’s advocate on this one. To a couple of your points: any pickup is going to obliterate a pedestrian, so that’s not unique to this one, and I’d argue that most pickups can’t practically be accessed from the side anymore. Agreed on the weight and glass area, though. And I still hate the “tablet as everything” interior.

If it can live up to the specs they’ve quoted, (and I’m taking that as a big if) it’s technically impressive. A 500 mile range almost completely eliminates range issues, 3500lbs payload/14,000 towing is definitely capable, 0-60 in 2.9 is definitely fast (though pointless), it looks like it could be solid off-road, and the pricing is in line with gas pickups. If I was absolutely required to drive an EV, I’d probably go for that one.

Also, I didn’t realize how big this thing actually is sitting on its own:
