I can’t remember ever seeing a Fiat on the road and I’ve seen some relatively rare cars like a CTS wagon, Ferrari, Polaris Slingshot, Jaguar XF, and a couple Rolls Royces.

Hmm. Neat video, but with as many “in general”-s as he had to throw around, I’m inclined to believe the real difference is something else, or maybe even just marketing. For example, what is this?

Using those criteria:  
5) It’s not based on any other car or truck platform, so ???  
4) 4wd, so SUV  
3) Solid axles, so SUV  
2) It’s only rated for 2000 lbs towing, so CUV  
  1. It’s unibody, so CUV
     
    I’d say SUV, since I tend to think of SUVs as being significantly more capable than cars either as an off roader or in terms of capacities, with CUVs being essentially cars that are SUV-shaped. But, that really doesn’t work either, since now vans wind up meeting the criteria for being an SUV.
     
    On a related subject, anyone know the technical difference between four wheel drive and all wheel drive? Is it just the low-range gearing?

nah some 4WD SUVs these days (Tahoe) doesn’t even have a low-range selection. I think the difference is AWD can be more adaptive on the road (transferring torque to back wheels vs symmetrical)
 
now, permanent 4WD compared to AWD is basically the same

You can’t entirely blame them.  
The line between SUVs and CUVs are often blurred, thanks to sloppy marketing. And crossovers are a relatively recent segment compared to most others.
 
Until recently, the dominant segments in the automotive industry were the cars, particularly sedans and hatchbacks, coupes in the old days. People often refer to whatever that has 4 wheels and a metal body that can driven around as a “car”.

And that right there is why I think that crossovers will eventually fade away into the other vehicle classes. (I’d vote “car” or “hatchback” for that one, but it may have been legally defined as a “light truck.”)
 
Also, fun fact they didn’t mention in the video: the HHR and PT Cruiser were both designed by the same person.

Well, it wasn’t as though Chrysler and GM sought him out. He just happened to have switched from working at one to the other by the time they were working on the HHR. And, assuming Wikipedia is correct, it turns out he finalized the HHR, but didn’t originate it. (That might not be a safe assumption, though, considering his page opens with: “Bryan Nesbitt is a Joke and a low life :) “.)
