I’d say get the Toyota, but it looks like the one you’ve been eyeing has been in a crash. It’s best to avoid title-branded vehicles, some insurers won’t insure those unless you own them outright with no payments.

A used Kia Sorento in EX trim would be worth checking out. It has AWD, a V6 and 8 speed transmission, a nice interior, and I have it on good authority that the Sorento is quiet and rides well.

The SUV looks sweet. Good mpg too. There is a 2016 Sorento in the dealer lot I’m looking at nearby. Sadly it seems 2016 is one of the bad years for reliability. It is a cheap SUV option though

I don’t think they look bad, minus that their purpose was to fool someone into thinking a hard top was a convertible.

Vinyl roofs were before my time. I don’t see the appeal. Vinyl cracks and flakes.

Its pointless. Also saw a Buick Lucerne with an aftermarket soft top once. So it was a fad even in the late 2000s. Cadillac had it in the Fleetwood and I always liked that style

Not exactly comparable. Vinyl siding is made to last for decades and is installed over a moisture barrier.

Alright, so apparently I’m moving to the US.
 
What would you recommend for me to look at when searching for $2000ish craiglist car?  
Logic tells me to get an Honda or a Toyota.
 
I’ll be starting in Miami, Florida, staying with my cousins, should I care about rust from sea wind?  
Are window seals a concern? What else?

As far as Rust from Sea Wind goes, I have no personal experience with this but here’s the best I can say:
 
According to stories I’ve heard, be very concerned; especially if you park on a beach. I’m not certain what the best course of action to prevent rust near the sea is but here are 3 courses of action that I can relate:
 
1: Disassemble the car and coat everything with a rust preventive coating. (Use a coating that’s good enough so you don’t do this in vain. Also don’t spray over rust, not even a pinhead’s worth, or it WILL come back.)
 
2: After going through a Car Wash and after the water dries, spray areas likely to rust (undercarriage, wheel arches, rockers) with Fluid Film. This can be sprayed into areas that are hard to get to. DO NOT BREATHE FLUID FILM.
 
3. Go through a Car Wash every week.
 
Personally, I’d go for Option 2 if the car has no rust issues. Fluid Film needs re-applied every so often but it sticks to surfaces pretty well.
 
Also, no matter what car wash you go to, I’d recommend to avoid ones that still use brushes; the brushes will scratch paint lightly enough to mess with polish jobs. Use Touchless car washes instead.

Unless you are very lucky any $2,000 car is going to be junk. It may run for a while but soon it will break and a repair will be worth more than the car itself.

I’d say its a gamble.
 
You’ll either end up with an indestructible car that will last till the end of time, or a flimsy rust bucket that will fall apart just by looking at it.

Color me intrigued

Another cool European car we can’t have in the states: The Mercedes A45 AMG hatchback.
 

 
This hot hatch makes 416 horsepower in S trim and has an AWD and a drift mode. We may get the sedan, but a hatchback is better for a small car like the A class.

So a dealer convinced me to buy a Ford fusion. 2016 with the 2.0 turbo. Real low miles (23500) and only $16k. Quiet ride for sure. Better than the Subaru I drove. Plus no CVT!

It’s a good gamble. My oldsmobile was $2400 and lasted me 9 years until the rear end crash.

Look for old Camry or Civic yeah. I hear the Toyota Matrix is a nice choice too. I’m biased towards a General Motors car with a 3.4 V6. My house has had two of em and both great.

BoostedBoiz $500 Dollar Odyssey that did a 150MPH Mile run on a 700whp K series :D
