Some things I’ve noticed after owning the Sonata for a week:
The owner’s manual is so big I only have space for a thin pair of gloves in the glovebox. Seriously, all the manuals in a pile are like 5 inches thick and the glovebox isn’t very sizable to begin with. They should store the manual digitally in the car’s computer and on a flash drive.
Though the new engine only has about the same horsepower as in my old car, it feels much more responsive due to the direct injection. Even in the cold there is little hesitation. I’d like more power of course, but it’s adequate for daily driving.
I wish the center screen in the gauges had more options for display than the digital speedometer.
It’s a little thing but being able to unlock, start, and lock the car with only a push of a button is so convenient. The trunk release is also super convenient. I simply stand next to the trunk for 3 seconds and it opens.
I’m not impressed with the audio system. It doesn’t have that full, rich sound I like. I’ll spring for a premium system in my next vehicle.
The heated seats are great. On the middle setting they get warm enough in five minutes that I have to turn them down. On high I could probably use the passenger seat to keep food warm.
Fuel economy is good. It’s hard to say exactly what the number is because the computer only displays MPG on a pop-up screen after the car is turned off, yet I seem to average about 32 on the highway. That’s 10 mpg more than in my old car and this new model has a greater range by about 110 miles.
