Yeah, 1966 is the last year for them I think. On a similar subject the Packard car company (similarly tiered to Mercury or Lincoln, I’d guess; they weren’t at the Ford and Chevrolet level) died in the 50s and the last few years were a merger with Studebaker.

Miracles do happen; here’s a tale where the driver (not me!) SURVIVED A SEMI TRAILER FALLING ON HIS CAR. Well, this is what I read at least.

“Been meaning to post on this for quite awhile. Yeah, ‘I’m that dude’. I just wanted to thank everyone for the kind words - definitely was overwhelmed by all the comments from my friends and all the folks I met while I was down in Ohio. Very Cool! A strange day, it was my birthday and I was just out for a quick shakedown run. I’d tweaked the fit of the mufflers the night before and wanted to make sure I didn’t have any rattles - it was on my list of things to do before the AMO in Cleveland. I had just gone under the overpass and was slowing to turn left - caught the out of control semi in the corner of my eye - cranked the steering wheel to the right, buried my foot in the gas and as the trailer started to come over on me - put my body in the passenger seat. When it stopped moving - popped the seat belt - passenger door - and got out. Scared the crap out of the people sitting at the light. Luck (and some smarts) saved my bacon but SAD about my car. My buddy Gabe lent me his ‘68 X to take to Cleveland, I didn’t want to miss that. I started ‘tire kicking’ before we left on the trip, even took a look at another ‘70 while I was down there, but wasn’t sure if I wanted a done car, project car or something in between to replace BITTERX. Settled on something in the middle and have since bought a BBG ’69 500 Special out of Minnesota - plan is to move over some of the goodies from the ‘70, just finalizing all the details with insurance now. Anyway, this is turning into a novel - just wanted to thank you all and let you know I’m back in the saddle!”

And here’s an older wreck (1984 or so) where the driver survived (strangely?) (Well, the photos don’t work. You’ll have to click here to find them if you can even access that topic on the forum linked.)

The story goes like this: A drunk man’s driving at a high speed at night, he goes over a small hill and there’s a curve or turn just after it, he slams into the tree apparently at an angle and he’s thrown against the driver door which stays shut, the floor rips out from under him and he falls down. His boot was stuck between the frame and the tree but he freed himself or was helped out before the wreck was found in the morning.

Some times I just think DAAAAMN.

Of course it wouldn’t. Bond’s diet is about 80% martinis; over time, this has allowed him to develop such a tolerance for alcohol that he’s physiologically incapable of becoming intoxicated. Either that, or he’s literally always drunk, Archer style.

And on a related note, BMT 216A is best Bondmobile:

Far be it from me to question that awesome little French tin can, and that chase scene was great, but only the DB5 has been driven by three different Bonds in seven different movies. (Also, fun fact, the original one from Goldfinger was the first DB5 ever built.)
