I applied to be a assistant when the positions were open and then worked hard until i got invited to be a mod. it took me nine months but i got there.

I asked TSP to be an assistant last September and was hired on, and now I’m a mod. That’s pretty much it. There’s no real process of picking, you sometimes just have to ask an admin. Past behavior does have an effect if you have a history of misbehavior, though.

Yeah, like Mildgyth and Mike said, and all kidding aside, I watched the Want To Help? thread and when positions were open I sent in a copy of my resume and references. Then I kept a copy of the policies and procedures open on one screen every minute I was on the site and found something that gave me more energy to do than it took, and have been having fun ever since.
 
It’s like volunteering at a 365-day-a-year fan convention.
