You’re right that at a first glance the look of the holographic foil looks similar to the zoomed out appearance of a small pictures mosaic.

:D That helmet has seen a lot of uses throughout pen and paper RPGs (not sure if it ever actually served the purpose of protecting Leafhelm’s head from anything). It is quite funny to see in how many ways an oversized helmet can be diverted for useful purposes ;)
Quite obviously it is way too large for Leafhelm and was probably never made for a pony to begin with (Leafhelm dug it up near some ruins when he was a foal and that’s when he got his cutie mark).

Chances are that it might be a lot easier with a plotter machine (which I don’t have). However, the patterns I used are probably also too sketchy to be used in a plotter machine (when cutting them with by hand it is easy enough to correct minor mistakes by visual judgement.

I’m happy to send you the patterns I used for free. I just uploaded them, so I can give you the links.
They are based on the Princess Windows from the 2017 MLP movie. For those patterns I merely removed a few of the rods to simplify them a little . You can print those patterns (they must be printed with the same height), cover the rearside of them with pencil lines, then tape the pattern onto two layers of black cardboard and trace the outlines of the window pattern with a pencil. The pencil lines on the backside will produce an imprint on the cardboard you can then use for the cutting. It is extremely important to also have the layers of black cardboard taped together at the edges so they won’t shift during the cutting.

Luna One important note here. In case of Luna I had to add a vew rods not included in this pattern to ensure that the moon at the top (otherwise not held in place by any rods) would stay in place.

In case of Luna in particular there are more different shades of blue than I could find in stores so I painted some of the (originally white) transparent paper myself to get the necessary variety of blue.

Unfortunately it would be more than anyone will be willing to pay ;)
All of the panels and the transparent paper fillings were handcut. Along with the drafting and the glueing of the shreds of transparent paper, it took more than 60 hours to make. So even if I took what is minimum wage per hour over here, I’m afraid it would exceed what anyone would be happy to pay.

I half expected the makers of MLP to make something of Pinkie Pie’s sisters day which would have provided an easy explanation for Pinkie and any of her sisters to show up at pretty much any location.
And with regard to Limestone, she was almost begging for a story of her own in the episode “The Maud Couple” with statements like: “I’m not jealous! Who said anything about jealous?!” and “Buck up, Pinkie Pie. You look as miserable as I feel all the time.” (especially the later was one where Pinkie Pie should have picked up the broad hint).

It is a form of art I can only encourage to try out. Pipe cleaners / chenille wires are a lovely material to work with and they allow for the creation of fully flexible / posable figures.

I always hoped to see an episode with these two together. With Pinkie Pie’s sister days (established in the episode with Maud in Manehattan) there would have been an easy explanation for a visit of Pinkie and Limestone in Griffonstone. Limestone and Gilda both have a choleric side, both are very worried about their homes and perhaps Gilda by now feels a similar responsibility for Griffonstone as Limestone does with the rock farm (both of them thinking that everything would depend on their permanent taking charge of the respective place). I think the two of them might actually learn a lot about themselves by getting to know each other.

Usually I think of little stories or scenarios when drawing scenes. Such scenes may end up getting integrated into MLP pen and paper RPG adventures when I am playing the part of the game master.
I believe while I was drawing this I also felt reminded of the scene in “Canterlot wedding” when Twilight was brought to the caverns underneath Canterlot by Crysalis. While this cannot be the same scene (with Twilight being an alicorn), I think those caves leave a lot to be explored.

When it comes to the legs I recommend twisting the pipe cleaners for them them around a staff to make them consistent too.

Pipe cleaners can well be compined with styrofoam spheres which can be used to fill the head and torso and ensure the proportions are right. I hope you will have as much fun working with them as I do, Ciaran :)

Pipe Cleaners (also called chenille wires) are a very underestimated material. You can actually make stop motion videos with the movable figures you can make from them. If you are interested, I can only encourage you to give them a try :)
