Ah yes, the nebulous “people” anyone can pull out of their ass to make it seem there’s vast agreement with their own position.
Pride, and messages like this, exist to celebrate that “the gays” in some places are no longer lynched or treated as deviants and lessers, to celebrate the progress made from how in living memory it was perfectly socially acceptable to firebomb business and homes suspected of having gay people in them, to how now the hate is mostly limited to snowflakes online.
It also serves to raise awareness for the places where being gay is still illegal (at best) “Why not protest there”, you ask? Well because doing so tends to land you in prison (see Russia) or just murdered (see most of Africa). Do you think people in “the west” shouldn’t protest and raise awareness about horrible things happening elsewhere? Stay quiet, “we got ours, let them figure it out on their own”?
It boggles the mind that there are so many “complaints” about pride flags or messages like this, but practically none at all about characters waving the US flag, celebrating the 4th of July, rebelling (illegal!) against the British, or memes about the Boston Tea Party (destruction or property, impersonation, breaking and entering, and various other crimes).
In any case this thread has gone on nowhere for long enough.
Default search
If you do not specify a field to search over, the search engine will search for comments with a body that is similar to the query's word stems. For example, comments containing the words winged humanization
, wings
, and spread wings
would all be found by a search for wing
, but sewing
would not be.
