Tumblr Alert!

Read first please!  
Well, Tumblr decided to be a complete ass and is going to remove all adult art by Dec. 17 ^th. This will affect everyone who has an account, be it appropriate or adult. But it will affect us Bronies/Pegasisters/Furries/ect. (Practically almost any skilled artist) the MOST.  
For those of you who make this kind of art as a hobby or a living such as Lil-miss Jay or Hooves-art, or no longer update on an old version of your Tumblr account like americananomaly’s Anthroquestria or Stunnerpone’s Georgia Replies…  

 
And don’t forget to spread this message among your fellow Pony/Furry/Adult or Basic artists across the web.

people with bizarre fetishes (that don’t depict sex acts/genitals/“female-presenting nipples”) always win in the end, don’t they? there’s literally nothing that states stuff like feet isn’t allowed. sucks for the other artists, though. arrested for horny crimes.

Ok, I’ll agree.

What I find this decision to be so outlandish is that there could be artists who are decent folks who have trouble finding a job in this life.

The problem is, someone uploaded porn of underage characters (probably aged up, too) which got the Tumblr app removed from the App Store. Like I said in another thread, it’s a slippery slope. I’m not against porn (I don’t like it) but the line has to be drawn somewhere, unfortunately, as the definition of 18 is impossible to determine in art, it will probably have to be where Australia or Indonesia puts it.

Yeah, except that doesn’t mean that they have purge all types of porn.

yeah. thats one big issue with allowing NFSW art on sites like that. it kinda goes both ways: artists making a living and money, or child/underage character porn being uploaded. while i agree that the ban shouldn’t be added due to people making a living, i do think child porn shouldn’t be uploaded… or drawn, for that matter. if Tumblr decided to revoke the ban, i think they could atleast add some more security features for underage art. security features likely wouldn’t do much but it’d be a step in the right direction.

I heard Newgrounds is inviting Tumblr users to their site since they have an adult art section.
 
This could revive Newgrounds into a relevant site again.

even if they were to purge just stuff like beastiality and child porn, people would still find a way to post it. it’s a sick cycle.

I’m really going to miss asks, and hope that someplace else can manage to reintroduce them. It seems insignificant, but only now have I realized just how important asks blogs were to the fandom’s ecosystem. They were perfect for growing as an artist, breaking art block, and interacting with your audience.

I am aware of that. 99% of all internet users do not have the knowledge to understand basic network functions.  
But that’s not a problem, you don’t need to know the in depth.  
The fediverse is not centralized, it’s decentralized, see this picture meaning that anyone can make their own instance/domain, a domain name is for example “derpibooru.org”. The advantage of decentralization is that their is no more one entity who can decide to ban/censore content like it’s happening with tumblr, or like it’s going to happen with newsground or twitter at some point, it mitigates the negative effects of censorship and can be a problem for government since servers can be hosted in other countries like for example venezuela. You also avoid the infamous worldwide datamining on most servers since most instance are made by people who are passionate and not for monetary reasons.  
One of the instances who succumbed to such while behavior is mastodon.social who sells back the private and public data of it’s users to companies.
 
How does it work ? Very simple, you subscribe or create a server, if you are a newbie and cannot create a server so you will have to rely onto someone, that’s why I suggested you to seek help to lain. When you are registered on a server you will have two timelines, one local to your own server and one with all the interconnections that exist on the fediverse network. When you post on the server where you are registered your post is shared automatically on the fediverse. So the fediverse isn’t defined by the software used but by it’s protocol which permits interconnections between the servers, the protocol is called Ostatus, but don’t go too far on that it’s in depth details.
 
As for software their are 4 softwares that exist who use the protocol Ostatus, Gnu Social which is very old and not maintained well, Pleroma a newly made and working software which needs very little hardware needs (aka=more users on one server), PostActiv a fork of Gnu Social who tries to update Gnu social and Mastodon who’s creator betrayed the neutrality principals that we had on the network for the past ten years.

This is gibberish to you but I’ve been reading this sort of awful things for the past three decades so to make it short, they can remove anything they want for any reason, and whatever you post on it they can claim it their own.

There’s also the whole software freedom part to explain since the protocols and servers are made of them but that is already a lot I think.

Newsground is centralized so it’s the same problem.

I’m mostly worried about abandoned artist blogs, once they are deleted, anything not uploaded to Derpi or elsewhere will be gone forever.
