I wish more people appreciated my art...

I know that comes off as shallow, or perhaps even needy. I know it comes off as “Look at me look at me!”  
But, all my life, I’ve never really been good at anything, art was all I had to my name.  
I just wish more people commented on my art, liked it, and interacted with me.
 
I realize this is probably a really stupid post, but to me, it means a lot…  
I mean.
 
I’ve always wanted to be ‘popular’ for art. Not necessarily for money, just… See a new work and like/comment/interact with my art.

Same here.  
I know those feelings all too well also.  
I know I don’t have as much talent as some people and am nothing more than an amateur but it still sucks when you put so much effort and time into something and don’t get any feedback.

yeah, I mean. I’ve spent hours now, on this one picture. And almost no one liked it, fav’d, commented. Nothing…  
And that hurts. . . A lot.
 

And I realize I’m not the greatest artist out there. I get it.  
But… I just want. For once. To be liked for something I do….

The approval of others is nice, but it’s not very reliable. Rather than that, I would suggest getting confidence from yourself, from what you have accomplished, from how much you have improved.

If your only reason to draw is because you expect to get praises and attention, you are setting yourself for some miserable, miserable feelings.
 
Without menctioning that those are awful reasons to draw in the first place.
 
Draw because you like it. If nobody comments on your drawings, who cares?  
As long you had enjoyed drawing them, everything is OK.  
That’s the only thing that counts.
 
And this comes from a guy who has uploaded some pixel art that hasn’t received a single comment over three years.

I like your art.  
I think you’re really good at dynamic poses and backgrounds; something I can’t for the life of me do.  
I haven’t got the hang of anatomy or how to make much else more than boring poses yet :P  
Plus it takes a lot of effort to make good backgrounds which you obviously put the time into on some of the drawings I saw on your deviantart account.  
I don’t usually ever take the time to do that (cause’ i’m lazy)  
So your effort really does show.  
Anyways in the end it’s important to just draw for yourself for the fun and not worry too much about anything else.  
I know it’s hard because I don’t get many comments on anything I do either, but I try to remind myself i’m not doing it for anyone else but me!

I have some issues, where… I have abandonment issues, and approval issue.  
So, for me. I just.. .I know it’s shallow. But. I need approval.

As cold as this may sound, whinning sob stories on the internet to fish for attention is not the solution to your problems.
 
It will trap you in a loop that will get you more and more disconnected from the real world and only will make you feel more and more miserable.
 
Want praises and acceptement? That a very valid goal, but you have to earn them.
 
Trying to create an internet safeheaven where you get showered with easy praises and then having to deal with the real world, where nobody has any reason to sugarcoat things for you or giving you any kind of special treat, will hit you hard.
 
Without menctioning that the more time you escape into the internet, the less hours you will have to deal with basic needs like for example, finding a job to get a steady income source.

While everything you say is true. Absolutely true.  
I’ve had nothing but abuse in the real world.  
My own parents abandoned me, I’ve been bullied all my life, physically and mentally.  
I’ve been told I’m retarded, because I’m more… What’s the word, in touch with primal instincts? I can hunt, start fires, learn to listen to the world around me.
 
The internet has been the only place, I’ve ever come close to being accepted.  
And no, this isn’t a whinny sob story to get attention. If I wanted to do that, I can write a whole column about everything I’ve been through.  
Almost novel length.

Try being a poet…if you think getting recognition for the visual arts is hard. I’d love for one iota of the fame even the lowliest painter has. I lucked out by appealing to a niche group, if it wasn’t for them I’d have no fans.
 
At least your stuff is pretty, that’s what nets folks now a days. No love for the written word.

I love written work. I’ve not read as much as I’d like too… But I’ve started reading again, since I have access to a library. Even have a few fanfictions up.  
Not great, but more for fun, that has gotten me more people coming up to me at a anime con telling me they know me. Which is strange, they know me for the thing I’m least good at.
 
But thank you, I do like my art, it is pretty :)

Diversification is good, it can net a lot of fame.
 
Try finding a niche and, for lack of a better term, exploit it. Ponies are a good start, but this fandom is so swamped with artists it’s hard to establish yourself above the old guard, especially with some of them turning out a lot of work.
 
If that fails, draw porn. Avoid only drawing fetish porn unless you fancy a Tom Preston style burnout.

You’re much better than I am and you’ve probably gotten more attention than me, and I’m not complaining.

Better is all relative. I mean, it’s all perspective.

Without meaning to give off a bummer vibe, your art is really nice, but it’s also mostly OCs. I like OCs, mind, but most people just don’t even notice their existence. Hell, a lot of people don’t notice most images with canon characters unless they have the one or two that they really like.

I’ve got some advice to add to what TSP said.
 
I can tell by your name, and by the fan-fic you wrote, that you’re a Dr.Who fan. Maybe try drawing some more cross-over art. You’ve got a few pics of Doctor Whooves, try running with stuff like that. We’ve got a lot of Whovians running about, myself included. Are you into any other nerdy things by chance? Because Cross-overs are usually hot sellers.

I also like aviation. Been trying to get into plane pones, which I love the design.  
mmm. I like, Hunger Games, murder mysteries. (Though I don’t know if I’d call that nerd likes. More like, trying to pick apart a psycho’s mind…)

Hunger Games is pretty popular, and a murder mystery pony tumblr would probably find a niche. Cross-overs, when done well, can appeal to both groups and attract fans. Just be careful not to butcher canon, or you’ll piss off purists.
 
Personally, I’d love to see more Warhammer 40k pony crossovers, if you’re familiar with that at all.

I’m not very fond of Warhammer sadly. I had a very bad first introduction.  
My first boyfriend was extremely pushy, and forced me to play it, after I didn’t have any interest. So, I got motion sick from the game D:

Add to your art more details.

If I can give an advice, Derpibooru’s users tend to upvote the characters that know better. I.e., the characters from the show.  
Didn’t you notice that the first 5 most upvoted pictures of yours are all regular characters?
 
Your Derpy is good. A score of 50 for a beginner is good too.  
If people don’t comment, is that because there’s little to comment.
 
Draw cuteness. Draw funny situations. Heck, even draw shippings.  
As your last resource you may even draw porn (I don’t recomment to do it if you don’t practice a bit first, though).  
If you want people to comment, give them something to write a comment about (without trying to start shit, of course). Even if it’s something like “Ew, Fluttermac!”
 
If you really want to draw an OC, be sure to be damn consistent about it. Create a story, create interactions, don’t create Mary Sue’s, please nothing overpowered, make connections and references with other regular characters or popular OCs. And, of course, don’t be boring about it.
