Does it bother you that your SFW art doesn't get nearly as much as attention as most NSFW art?

I sometimes see some beautiful artwork, with so much attention to detail with around 100-200 upvotes, while mediocre NSFW art gets way more attention. I can understand wanting to draw for one’s own enjoyment and not for the attention, but on some level, it must cause some sighing moments when a 20-minute drawing gets way more upvotes and comments than the work you’ve spent several hours on?

Honestly, I can’t say that it does. Porn is pretty fun, after all, and I kinda enjoy drawing it more.

People just search for works they wish to see, that’s simple.

well yeah, people really like sex and that’s never going to change.  
But don’t let that keep you down, draw what you’re interested in instead of whats “popular” you’ll find a fanbase eventually. heck, my most popular drawing here on derpi is SFW when i mostly do NSFW

No, because I see the same thing happening with SFW art.  

 
“Cute” pics can be half the quality and get twice the score. Score is just a popularity thing, no reason to get too worked up about it.

it does make me sigh sometimes. I wish everyone liked what I liked. the more people who do, the more artists there will be drawing what I like. not because they want to get a high score, but just because it’s more likely that an artist will like what I like.

Doesn’t bother me. For one thing it can be revealing about this fandom if there were doubts or denials. I certainly indulge in some lewd too. People are gonna like what they like.

I judge my art based on what other similar art gets. Also having a dedicated fan/friend that enjoys your art is more important than a bunch of upvotes.

It really depends on the where you put your art I think :) I find my SFW art does better on DeviantArt in relation to the long-term interest whilst the NSFW art does better here (though it can lead to pandering, which never works out long-term). I suppose it depends on where your posting, or at least that’s been my experience with it. Branching out to other websites and always trying new things is a good way to balance out the interest in your work and the type of work you do.

Dont draw porn so I have never felt this. But I just figure it be a given that bronies just really love seeing horse pusdy.

The only way you can get desired upvote counts is through pandering.

I think porn is only popular with the registered base. I dunno how accurate the filters page is but more than half of the people using this site can’t view the porn.

there’s nothing wrong with drawing what people like. but it can be frustrating when they don’t like what you like.

I’m no artist (although I do play one on T.V) and I’ve seen numerous SFW pics get top billing on the site. Hell, if you don’t want to see any NSFW pics, there is a filter to get rid of it. Bam, nothing but SFW cute pics and the plethora of screen caps galore. :P
 
But in all seriousness, don’t let yourself get down because the demographic for porn is so high. It comes with the territory. I could go into how the fanbase for the show is usually consisting of mid to late 20-something males who usually have social issues, have difficulty with relationships and thus find sexual comfort in the porn of their passions, but I’m also not a phycologist. :P It is a common theme with pop culture groups like ours, nothing to get upset over it. It’s just the reality of it.
 
Keep doing what you love. Draw what YOU want to draw and there will be people who want to see your work. :)

Not sure age matters much. Even the young ‘uns are sneaking it like wildfire when they are not supposed to. If the average fandom age actually is mid-20s or higher I like that idea. More adults. || One of my former favorite pony sites seems almost as if 16 year olds took over all open discussions. Lord help me, I’m outta there. Not saying they verifiably did take over but seems like it. No I don’t age discriminate but when a site’s culture feels like going back to high school the hell with it. || My side mini-rant aside I agree people should draw any category of art they enjoy.

I do occasionally get a bit disappointed when I draw something that I’ve worked hard on that gets very little attention or feedback compared to one of my less impressive but more popular NSFW pictures.
 
I used to be discouraged when followers would ask for more and more NSFW art on tumblr and ignore or unfollow me when I didn’t upload enough porn.
 
But I realized: it’s not impossible for a SFW picture to be successful. It’s harder, yes, but it’s possible. We just gotta practice and try harder.
 
And more importantly, even if a picture I’m really proud of gets very little attention, I always try to remember that I should just be proud of myself and remember how much fun I had drawing it. A desire for attention can get in the way of the fun and passion that I get from drawing. Who cares if it doesnt have a high enough number on a website? I loved drawing it, and it’s my personal favorite if I say so; no one can change that.

I’m a cynic. I’ve noticed that even anatomically incorrect nsfw art will do better than well drawn safe for work art. People will wank to anything…anything. It isn’t a universal rule but still common.
 
But as someone above said, many sfw picks get top billing. I think the hard reality is you can just scratch out something half-assed as long as a big slippery dick is somewhere on it, people will like it a lot more than if the big slippery dick weren’t there.

I don’t draw porn for personal reasons. It’s a sacrifice. If all I cared about is how many people upvoted my art then there would be no limits. I would draw everything.

well it’s just, don’t feel bad about it. it’s like saying people will like a half-assed picture a lot more if it has sweetie belle somewhere in it, than if it doesn’t. so what? people like sweetie belle, and they also like well drawn pics, but it’s not just one or the other. porn is just one way to add value to a pic. you want popularity w/out drawing porn, you find other things people like and draw those. I recommend starting a cyoa.
 
incidentally, sometimes being drawn bad makes porn so, so much worse than not porn of the same quality.
