she strikes me as the kind of kid that has enough resolve to run away from home, but has too much pride to immediately admit what a terrible mistake she’s made and go back, and would possibly spend weeks outside until weather got bad enough to send her back.

Scootaloo a homeless orphan? Yeah, it took a while for the likes of rarity and sweetie belle’s parents to show up but at least they showed up. Next thing you know abusive images of the pair almost vanish, i can’t remember the last one that showed up. Come to think of it i can’t remeber seeing a scootabuse image either. It seems the only one who likes it is this one backgound pony. A runt thrown out of his parents house or something similar, oh well no one will miss him.

I jump to the conclusion that she’s neither an orphan nor homeless. However, her inability to fly caused her parents back in Cloudsdale to send her away to distant friends in Ponyville to avoid the shame. (At least they no longer "expose" a crippled foal on a cloud to die, like in the pre-Hearths Warming days of old Spartan Pegasopolis.) She has a house she lives in, there’s just no family for her there.
