Sometimes I do wonder if Equestria is a society where names where a pony can have multiple names throughout their life.

Names that are basically exact descriptions of cutie marks are bad.  
Also people were 50/50 about Moonlight Raven and Crescent Heart, so it doesn’t really matter which one people prefer.

Twilight’s mother is also called Twilight.

in Season 4 we had so many ponies go unnamed.
 
suddenly in S5 we are naming them again.

I still prefer the Crescent Heart name for her. In the middle of the name discussions after the show aired, the mods just set all of these names regardless of what was popular at the time.
 
So with the sisters being the ones that were getting tagged by everyone with their name choices, mods seemed to just pick them and shut all others out by auto changing any other names into the ones they chose.
 
The whole Moonlight Raven thing came from her sounding/looking kinda like Raven from Teen Titans and liking Luna.
 
The Crescent Heart name comes from her cutie mark.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Her mane instantly reminded me of Blythe. One of the earlier search results for “Blythe Baxter” on DeviantArt is of a ponified version of her with that color coat, probably because that is a shirt color of hers in major promo art early on on at the time in the series.
 
Blythe’s eyes, however, are blue.
