Looking back at this image I am once more reminded how stunning this is. I still wonder at times how long it took the artist to do. This could not have been an easy piece to draw especially with all the little details put into it, and that isn’t even taking into account things we may have not even noticed yet within the image itself.
@TexasUberAlles
That reminds me, I think that’s the floating portion on the top of this image, and next to it, on the left, is the christening/celestianing site of the new air yacht from Sweet and Elite.

Definitely; even setting aside the famous lack of scale in Equestria– where Pinkie’s tiny little cupcake turret becomes as big as the main room of Sugarcube Corner when you go inside– we’ve seen many street views from within Canterlot, none of which correspond to any of the features visible on the Ponyville side. The aerial racetrack is already established as being on the other side of the mountain from the palace, so there’s even a canon precedent for Canterlot extending to that side as well.
Interesting, but I don’t think it’s actually THAT big.
We see so much of it that’s far removed from the castle grounds, but little of that is seen from Ponyville. It has to exist on the opposite side, i.e. the North.
Oh this is such a great help. I’m in the production stages for a fanfic and a map of Canterlot was an absolute necessity. This is a huge help to get a mental map of the place.
And seeing it colored? That would be a wonderful treat.
I love how you can see the city becoming more and more modern-looking as you get further away from the castle. It really looks like something that evolved naturally!
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. This is exactly how cities look which have evolved organically over hundreds/thousands of years around a central landmark.
You can distinguish an upper city, old urbanistic style, with high density city blocks centered on the main buildings rather than streets, and a lower city constructed on a grid plan, with open, low density blocks, as if flux and circulation had been as primordial in a pony world as in ours.
Such a stunning and well-thought-out piece! All these details are so fascinating… It would be amazing to see it in color, but… yeah, that’d be quite laborious.
ive always wondered that too lol
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE
Could you imagine it if the artist colored it?

I’m just wondering if he’ll do a Ponyville and Crystal Empire version of this?
A person could spend hours studying all the details…I’m afraid to ask how long it took to draw.
