I’ll start bitching when Rainbow Dash flies

And when Fluttershy talks to an animal

And when Celestia raises tehe sun

And when Pinkie thows a party

And when Applejack bucks an apple tree

This discussion reminded me how I’m disappointed that this season hasn’t given magic much focus so far. I’d like to see some new spells from Twilight before it’s over.

I know the show is about slice of life but come on, the main character is a magic focused alicorn and the writers need to use that.

As Starswirl once said: you can’t make an an omelette without unintentionally morphing a few ponies.

Seriously though, I suppose rushing into new spells fits if we look at the angle that magic is Twilight’s natural ability and that she has more power with it than she is often expecting or prepared to control. I always assumed trying new and diverse spells must come with some level of trial and error, as reading and executing are two different things.

I would say that she flashed them. I don’t think she knew the tunnels well enough to know where to teleport. Still, I wouldn’t have put it past her to do so.

Yeah, Sunset did.

Total number of teleporters: Celestia, Twilight, Sunset

It seems like highly skilled and difficult magic.

Well, it’s a flaw moreso in Twilight than the spells or magic behind them. While she is ‘scientific’ about magic, she has a habit of rushing into new spells and believing them to work as intended, instead of testing it out, or at least that well.

I mean, one of the only times I remember her testing out a new spell before using it was the ‘morph’ spell…Which she was testing out in public, which morphed two small animals and could have easily done so to a pony.

Of course, she still has room for growth.

And, to be fair, I suppose the more versatile the mage, the easier it would be to try something new and mess it up.

I can see Twilight and Starswirl having amazing magical flexibility, the price being taking risks and losing control quite a few times.

I will agree though that the ‘spell backfired’ thing was used too much with Twilight early in the series. Thankfully it seems to happen less often now.

I mean, I know it’s a fun concept but she is supposed to be amongst the most competent spellcasters to ever walk Equestria, so it kinda doesn’t fit.
