The, uh, the colors faded after sitting in storage for two centuries. *cough*.
 
I could come up with a long-winded description of why this totally-not-a-nuke thing looks like a regular nuke, but for all intents and purposes it’s a nuclear weapon running under the name of ‘tactical self-contained megaspell’.

A Megaspell is, as described by its ideator, Fluttershy, a “underlying spell framework that allows smaller spells to be augmented in scope and intensity.” Basically, it is a foundation for bigger spells than a lone unicorn (or a single zebra alchemist/necromancer) could operate, allowing for multiple magic users to cooperate in its creation, and for far more energies to be stored inside, greatly augmenting the power of said spell.
 
Balefire bombs (which this is probably supposed to be) are green. Celestia Prime is pure sunlight. There’s no info on what other megaspells are colored.
