You’re confusing herbal mixing with general potion making. Zecora is a herbalist, which means she deals in medicinal herbs. She is an actual healer.

actually zecora makes several differant potions, so it’s not impossible to think that she could make exploding potions or some other form of alchemical bomb, and also tavish is the only one of the entire cast that isent white, and zebras are essentialy equestria’s black people.

You’re okay with Fluttershy being a mad scientist who uses black market animal organs in unethical human experimentation, loses his medical license for stealing a man’s skeleton, all just for the sake of seeing what will happen, and yet consider making her a hunter to be going too far?
 
The Sniper is more themed about nature. His backstory basically involves him spending most of his life living in the wilderness, and his stuff is generally more themed towards it.

As for combat abilities, I’m afraid Twilight is nothing like the Sniper and Fluttershy is nothing like the Medic.
 
Twilight is a sorceress. Her knowledge encompasses many broad fields of study, especially in magic, which itself can cover just about everything. Twilight is powerful in more ways than one, and making her the sniper because she can shoot things ignores her vast potential.
 
The closest thing Fluttershy has to a fighting style is turning into the incredible hulk. Otherwise, she generally prefers hiding to avoid physical injury. She doesn’t heal, just hide. Making her the medic just to protect her is ridiculous and wasteful.

Doesn’t hurt that the Sniper fits a lot of other things on a more aesthetic level. Among the mercs he has the most animal experience, most animal companions, and is the only merc besides Engineer to apologize to his kills in a way that sounds anything close to genuine.

Fluttersniper far as I can tell is about Fluttershy being shy and staying away from the actual fighting and staying near cover.

You have to see that the TF2 mercs are limited to human powers (more or less). You have to see that the TF2-Pony crossovers often assign Ponies to Mercs based on a mix of personality and physical properties.
 
Fluttershy is caring = Medic  
Rainbow Dash is fast and has a similar personality to the Scout = Scout  
Twilight has good aim?.. Sorry, I have nothing. I guess she studies sniping alot. = Sniper  
Pinkie Pie… Do I have to explain her? = Pyro  
Rarity has a similar personality to the Spy = Spy  
Applejack can carry lots of stuff and has experience with building… stuff. = Engi  
Angel Bunny‘s personality lines up to the Soldier’s = Soldier  
Zecora could make some cool bombs and probably has some booze = Demo  
Spike - Actually, I can’t see spike as being the heavy. He would be more of a medic or something.
 
Which brings me to another point: You could actually trade alot of the characters to other roles and find that they fit perfectly. There are alot of other combinations, but not everyone will be happy with those. If you would allow the powers Unicorns, Pegasi and Alicorns, then the line-up could look completely different again.
 
I don’t think that we will ever find a combination that we will all completely agree on.

The lazer thing just means she could use a gun, which every merc does.  
She also uses her horn to project shields, defend her friends, change the dietary habits of animals, change her friends’ physical forms, and a few other things.

Sure, you can roll with it, but why roll with it if you feel it can be done better? Sure, you can say to yourself ‘this has just the way it’s always been done’, or you can step back, analyze things, and say ‘can this be done better?’
 
Fluttershy is made medic simply because of some tradition of making her healer. There’s not much thought beyond that. And I’m not entirely sure how Twilight became the Sniper.
