Damn you pegasi!
… “That’s how people get curds and whey; just by letting milk sit in a jar (with access to air but not to bugs) somewhere.”
At room temperature too, I add. (Sorry.)
I realize that raw milk is outlawed in some places, but I haven’t had any trouble with drinking it in the past though all of the raw milk I’ve had was from the same farm. I even made yogurt with the milk I got from that farm! Fresh yogurt, Cheese, Clabber, Whey and Farmer’s Cheese! When you get down to it, Milk has a lot of stuff you can get out of it and that’s where the term “Milking it for all it’s worth” Comes from.
… And before I leave, If you’re suddenly deciding to get some of this milk do be careful. I’m sure there are good sources, but watch out for ones to not buy.
And yes, Raw Milk can be safe to drink at least in my case. I bought it from a nearby farm for $1 per quart which is pretty reasonable, considering how fresh it is at the farm.
Like it ever lasts that long. Tastes to good to leave around xD
Air tight, and filled with a non-reactive gas. If you make it a vacuum the milk will boil. It might still go bad (since it’s already been exposed to oxygen and many more germs and no longer in a self bacteria removing container) but not as quickly.
Good point. So basically, if they’re in airtight jars, we’re good to go?
I think milk needs oxygen to spoil, which is why it won’t spoil while in a breast/teat. However, once it’s in a bottle, all bets are off.
Good observation, but what about breast milk? Let’s be honest here, milk itself is warm in it’s simplistic form. Technically speaking, you could drink milk as long as it’s not been out in the hot sun for a day.
