Yeah, I remember Dan’s been there for an eternity as a translator, I just didn’t know he was the voice of the narrator.
https://youtu.be/GD6qtc2_AQA
Thanks for the info…I had not known that yet had allways viewed the Metroid 3 narration as one of the most epic video game narrations of all time
Apparently, he still works at Nintendo of America, as he still gets credited in some games like “A Link Between Worlds.” He got his start there by working for Nintendo Power magazine back in the ’90s.
That’s awesome.
“The Last Metroid is in captivity.”
Y’know, Dan Owsen of “Ask Dan” fame, (and helped write/translate 3 Zelda games, and EarthBound) did that voice narration? He also voiced for the original SNES Star Fox. (Though, it only had spoken dialogue at the end of the game.)
I thought the best M&L Jump tutorial was in Dream Team, where it was presented as the first boss of the game putting you through a “grueling test” and getting increasingly annoyed by how easily you’re doing it.
Anyway, if something like this isn’t in Metroid V, I will drown a kitten. (Don’t worry, Marsha had a bunch in her litter. :3 )
Yeah, though, it’s not a pixel-perfect version of the NES game however… (Due to the GBA’s smaller screen, and smaller pixel-resolution then the NES, they had to squish/distort the graphics a li’l for the NES game adaptions they had on GBA like the “Classic NES Series/Famicom Mini” games they did.)
They also have a 3D version of “Kirby’s Adventure” on 3DS. And granted “Nightmare in Dreamland” had some new things added to it.
Yeah, I remember that, maybe Nintendo’s getting over that now. (Would be nice to have more alternate versions of games like the SNES “Tetris & Dr. Mario,” or “Dr. Mario 64.” In fact, I think “Dr. Mario 64” is different enough from the NES game to be justified for a rerelease. It’s also the only version with a 3 or 4-player mode.)
In fact, despite the 3DS already having the original NES-version of “Super Mario Bros.” on it’s VC/Eshop service, they recently released the Gameboy Color version “Super Mario Bros. Deluxe.”
Kind of ironic, eh? The original Metroid is already on the Wii U Virtual Console, and Zero Mission has the original Metroid to unlock after you beat the game…
Not to mention, I think Kirby Adventure and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land are now both on the Wii U Virtual Console… And both the original Super Mario World and the GBA version are also on there…
Kind of interesting, considering that conversation the two of us had a while back about how Nintendo wasn’t likely to release two versions of the same game on the Virtual Console…
Not necessarily, as Metroid Fusion (called “Metroid 4” in the game’s intro, while Super Metroid was called “Metroid 3” in it’s intro) still had these creatures, and Samus acknowledging the abilities they taught her in the game’s storyline, and they are very important in “Fusin’s” story.
Perhaps, those abilities were just included as a treat for those who played “Super Metroid.”
Speaking of which “Zero Mission” is out in Japan for WiiU Virtual Console.
True, but Zero Mission is a remake of the first game, which means it’s set BEFORE Super Metroid, meaning that it was retconned.
But first appeared on Super Metroid. Animals and abilities. It was in the same location, too. Zebes.
There’s also the fact that Samus has those same abilities in Zero Mission…
Similar to Mega Man where the some enemies telegraph their attacks before you kill them.
