Twilight follows obediently, even if every part of her wanted to jump off a bridge. Her master was a brutal one, her relationship with him was strenuous to say the least. Now, normally it was mere martial punishment, and in fact her body still bears marks, both temporary and a few more lasting, even as she walks up the aisle.
 
However her masters cruelest streaks weren’t in the beatings, the burning, the shocking, the occasional cut or even the whippings. Her masters real sadism came in the form of humiliation. Every once in a while - no more than a month in between at minimum - he would do something that tore her self image to absolute shreds. Each case would be worse than the last; but only gradually!
 
It started with being degraded in front of a friend, but has since evolved into public humiliation. This was his latest, and absolute worst, stunt. He was forcing her to marry him, and he didn’t give a damn how much she didn’t want it, he was going to go through with it.
 
“Twilight! What’s taking so long?” He asks, as she begins tearing up. She looks up and away from her staring parents and brother. “I apologize master, please forgive me sir.” She chants back lifelessly, with practice so thorough she probably says it in her sleep.
 
The sight that awaits her as her gaze travels up is even worse. Her old mentor and her old foalsitter, together, smiling, waiting for her to join them and her master so the procession may begin. It makes her audibly sob and bite her lip to stave off hiccups, and reluctantly she gets up to the platform.
 
As the lines are read, Twilight ponders how the hell she got here, why it had to be this way, and why in tartarus this was even allowed, much less happening. But she kept drawing the same conclusion: because she wanted it. On some deep, hidden level, she wanted, nay needed this sort of degradation and belittlement.
 
“-take this mare, Princess Twilight Sparkle, to be your lawfully wedded wife?” Celestia asks the domineering figure. “I do,” he responds, adding, “but don’t bother asking her. Its not like she has a choice. She’s mine, has been since before this, the marriage only proves it on paper.”
 
Twilight collapses into a racking fit, not because of her masters statement, but because of what followed after it. “In that case I pronounce you husband and wife. Please present rings and kiss.”
 
The purple, miserable pony feels something cold slide down her horn, and is suddenly cut off from the minute, magical vibrations of the world around her. Her magic has been silenced, and now she’s being kissed by a stallion whom she both hates with all her being, and loves more than anypony on the planet.
 
But yet… Its the latter bit of that warring emotion that wins out. She can’t help but love him, she can’t help but want this, she can’t help it at all.
 
In her fit, Twilight doesn’t see her family stand and politely excuse themselves from the premesis. She doesn’t notice someone bring her master cords of rope, nor the black leather whip she’s so used to seeing.
 
Twilight knew about the marriage, the whole world did. But she was the only one in the world that didn’t know what was about to happen next, in front of everypony….

It would explain why Twilight Sparkle was so desperate to have the diplomatic talks be a success. It was either that, or… the above.

…And now I picture the camera following Twilight’s walk until it reveals the prince she has to marry is Rutherford.

They say the day a mare gets married will be one of the happiest days of their life. For Princess Twilight Sparkle, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
 
She was supposed to find somepony kind and caring, somepony that loved her, and she loved in return. Somepony that made her feel special, that shared her love of books, and learning, and friendship. She was supposed to find somepony she could happy with, that she could just cuddle up next to the fireplace while reading a good book, maybe even share a special kiss with under the moonlight. But this “Prince”, he was nothing of the sort. The egotistical, brutish, monster of a pony didn’t care for her feelings. He probably didn’t care for anypony other than himself. This isn’t what marriage is supposed to be like.
 
… and yet, she was going to go through with it anyways. Her husband-to-be was the prince of a large kingdom, much larger than that of Equestria. They needed resources, and Equestria had them. If she didn’t go through with this marriage to unite their lands, they would be left with little choice but to wage war. Equestria wasn’t ready for a war. Even if she did win, the loss of life would be catastrophic. So many ponies, her ponies, would die, if she didn’t agree to this. Whatever her own feelings on the matter may be, she could never do such a horrid thing to them. She’d sooner sacrifice her own happiness than risk her ponies in a war she could have avoided.
 
As the wedding bells continued to ring overhead, Twilight took comfort in knowing that she’d save her ponies, her friends, from the terrors of war. Steeling her resolve once more, she forced a smile onto her face an walked down to the alter.

…It occurs to me that Tirek or Starlight Glimmer, if one of them wanted to, could do this, since that power boost you’re speaking of would be no help if Twilight were to be depowered. Why they’d want to, I have no idea, but they certainly have the means to force the issue.

It’s likely red because the colour reflects her highlights, her diadem, the leash, and the blossoms around her.

The wedding was Cadance and Shining Armor, and their showdown in the comics had some sort of magic-boosting comet involved IIRC.

That only works if the villain wouldn’t win the ensuing fight. If you’re outmatched you my have no choice but to take one for the team and give in, at least temporarily.
 
…Twilight’s just hoping help arrives before she has to kiss Chrysalis, or at least before the honeymoon.

Though he probably should get one or two lines, something along the lines of “This can’t be happening…” or the like. You know, standard words of shock and disbelief, grief and despair, that sort of thing.

Or Chrysalis will kill Flash Sentry.
 
During the wedding, Flash will be her best man. All vacant stares, like the hollow shell people always accuse him to be, while the princess who loves him is married away to another.

Or Chrysalis is forcing Twilight to marry her as a way of punishing Cadance and Shining Armor for ruining her attempt to hijack their wedding, and Twilight has to do it or Chrysalis will kill… hmm.. Spike probably fills that role best.
