Instead of being old and decrepit, she would have become like a foal. Young enough to have been too weak to do anything of dangerous merit but old enough to get by on her own. Or she could have escaped somewhere inconspicuous before she reverted to toddler form (you know, from the same reason he was old and decrepitbin the first place) and was raised by an oblivious couple.
