No the Mutants have just wrested total control. The Alicorns are the Dictators the, Unicorns are the Governors, high ranking Generals, and the Pegasi are the Military muscle.

Alicorns are the ULTIMATE MUTANTS, where as Unicorns, and Pegasi are just common Mutants. That the Earthpony population (i.e. non-mutants), haven’t figured out what to do yet. And have instead allowed themselves to become subjugated by these Mutants instead.

Natural selection in no way tells you what something will end up like. Clearly humans are the dominant animals on this planet (though it’s debatable that bacteria are), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t hundreds of thousands of not millions of wildly different species that survive just as well but in different ways. There’s really no traits I can think of that are universal to all creatures/forms of life we know, so to say everything evolves to some model of perfection is preposterous. How would survival of the fittest mean their wings must be like bird wings? Are penguin “wings” like bug wings or like a birds wings? No, all three are completely different showing virtually no similarities, there is no “standard” wing design all creatures that have wings have.

Actually thinking about natural selection etc, ponies would have the same kind of traits as real world animals due to survival of the fittest, if ponies don’t evolve though, then there is a much larger arguements here than wings or horns but alas there is now an adventure!
