1. I said difficult, not never. There is a difference.  
2. Science class in middle school. Were science classes not available in your area? And if so, why would they not use the metric system in a scientific setting?  
3. I may have been wrong in saying “across the board”. I have been informed that the imperial system is more ‘precise’ while the metric system is more ‘accurate’. I agree that Fahrenheit (based on 0 being the freezing point of seawater) and (in certain cases with measuring length) inch/foot is better. Metric is also used commonly with beverages, and shares labels with imperial on most, if not all consumable products. (Most of us here probably don’t have to deal with the other units of measurement on a daily basis.) In terms of tools though, that really has a strong need to be standardized. Needing two sets of tools for minutely different sized nuts & bolts is ridiculous.  
4. What is strawman with appeal to emotion and possible false cause?  
5. Actually, I was right. Scientists world-wide (that includes the U.S., in case you forgot) use the metric system.  
6. And using your example, it equals 70.8661 inches or 5.90551 feet. Which method were you saying was simpler again? Now if you used 5’9” as an example, the conversion would be 1.7526m, 17.526 decimeters, or 175.26 cm, which the average person would have a hard time relating to. And also, the other point I forgot to bring up was, in what way does 182.9cm relate to 6?  
7. The burden of proof was on you. Therefore, your point is invalid. What do “ethics” have to do with anything? There’s plenty of ways to conduct a driving experiment safely with human test subjects. After all, what is a driver’s test? It’s much less dangerous to conduct a driving experiment on a closed off area with traffic cones and such as opposed to the driver’s test or driving instructor lessons in live traffic.  
   You could’ve tried to argue separate points on why it would’ve caused car accidents if it were done on live roads.  
   a) Speed: This could be a problem. Since 1 mile an hour is equal to 1.61~ km pan hour, the conversion for people would be arduous. But, the km/h is already built into the speedometer of some cars alongside m/h.  
   b) Distance: This is much less of an issue, as distances traveled by vehicles are usually measured by ETA instead of length. As for warning or ‘x’ miles/feet ahead signs, we still have our eyes, don’t we?  
   c) Cost: This has nothing to do with accidents, but it would be a consequence of switching to metric. Here’s a big glaring problem. The cost of changing the millions of signs on every road would be extremely high.
    
   Lastly, your last statement brought nothing to the debate and is another false cause, but here’s a rebuttal anyway. The U.S. ranks behind in many international ranking categories. What are we doing right?  
   And while we are both guilty of the black and white fallacy, you have commited several of them. Try to bring more to the table next time, instead of just typing up a quick reply.
    
   P.S. After being informed further by reading and discussion, I’ve found out many things I didn’t know about or think about. Both systems have their flaws and benefits, and both are used in society one way or another internationally. Metric is already being used in the areas that it needs to be used, namely science. But it could definitely use much more exposure in schools to help students learn it better and have it stick, to better prepare them for science and hopefully, produce more scientists and medical professionals.

“‘MURRICA”, or more clearly the whole “USA IS NUMBER ONE!” thing is very much real, and, for anyone that’s walked the world, truly hilarious and sad.
