Hm. Is it really abandoning your post to check out something possibly dangerous nearby?

But… your job is to protect the Princess.

But… your job also involves protecting other ponies.

But… your job is to protect the Princess, and/or other ponies, from where you are assigned, not gallivanting all over Equestria. And sending in two guys at a time seems like a very good way to lose two squadmates if it is in fact something dangerous.

So… stay alert and stay at post, would be my choice, I guess. Of course, that’s by far the less adventurous option.
