Spike knows that Rarity is prone to melodrama, and until it actually looks like she’s getting into a relationship, the bloat of his ego will protect him from feelings of insecurity.
 
Plus, considering his age, he should have grown (and thus matured) noticeably at least slightly since the start of the show. It seems fair enough that his crush will mellow out (if not fade entirely) and his self-control and conscientiousness will improve.

…and, it was at this point that I lost it completely. This has become the show’s funniest sight gag for me now.

Yes, we need more of this Spike, the one who is the recipient of comedic abuse, but is also a wise-ass, as well as the voice of reason.

Spike, you put up with a lot of shit in this show. I’m glad you, at least, don’t get fazed by Rarity neglecting your feelings…

Man, I’m really glad that Spike wasn’t used as a doormat this episode, and we actually got to see the sarcastic Spike we know and love.

Who episode i was like, ‘hey’ What about him?

This felt suspiciously “past tense” to me. It still feels wrong that Spike had no real reaction to the way that she was crushing on Trenderhoof, and it still feels very, very wrong of rarity to go on and on about Trenderhoof in front of Spike.
 
That is, if he still has a crush on her.
 
In short, I think his crush on her was ended by the writers, and that this episode was a passive-aggressive way of letting us know that.

Spike just laughs it off.

In my opinion, this second was the best moment in the episode!
 
Except for the “Sexy Applejack” parts, of course.

Spike is a true man.  
He gets friendzoned hard and constantly, and doesn’t bitch and whine in the slightest.
