Soarin knew that Spitfire would be heartbroken, but it had to be done. He’d tried all he could to just let her behavior at the tryouts slide, but he just couldn’t bottle something like that up for long.
“Look, I forgive you! I really do,” Soarin reassured her, “but, well…”
He nearly cringed when Spitfire started to choke up. It was such a far cry from her usual stoic self.
“I-I just can’t trust you right now.”
He somberly gave her back the now rock-stale pie that sparked their relationship years ago. The deed done, He turned back and started to trot away.
“Soarin, please! I made a mistake! I… I just don’t know what went–”
Soarin gave her a look back. “I’m sorry, Spits. We’re through.”

I agree with your assessment of her uselessness in Wonderbolts Academy, but take issue with Hurricane Fluttershy. I still argue that she didn’t get involved because it wasn’t her job (as observer) to lend a hoof.
Oh yea of little faith. Fan additions will wash over it.
Which is for the best, given how the way Spitfire’s written isn’t neccessarible sensible all the time on the show either.
(Though frankly, given that this is the third time (after Hurricane FS and WB Academy) that she’s been completely useless, her show reputation is dropping rapidly. She’s lucky her positive interpretation since her s1 appearance still holds together at all.)
Some of my favorite clopfics are Soarin x Spitfire. But yeah, with these new characterizations, keeping these two together wouldn’t be something that would naturally come about. So, definitely a major leak in this ship, and time will tell if it will finish sinking or not.
Considering this is the first of this type of image I’ve seen so far, I’d say it never survived past getting out of port.
Personally, I thought they were more casual buck-buddies than a proper couple. But this is good as any for my first ‘feels’ pic.
Almost. He forgave her relatively quickly. But he probably has his eyes more on Dash now after this little event.
they can’t go that far into repercussions in a kid’s show like this. most people seem to forget that. they can have their little shout outs, but they can’t go that far that it goes over their target audience heads.
Just straight up lied to him. No that resolution was too easy as always.
