Vegetarians, yes.
Vegans? No.

Ponies still consume eggs (when used in baking, and also on their own - Rarity made eggs for herself and Sweetie Belle, and Pinkie Pie offered Spike a quiche).

There is also evidence that the consumption of meat was one of the contributing factors to the evolution of the human brain, on top of complex language, tool usage, and possibly climate.

Not to say that magic might not have something to do with the sapience of ponies…

Don’t forget the ham sandwich Applejack had in front of her in “A Bird In The Hoof”.

@Melancholy™
Real ponies can’t vomit, talk, and have naturally purple, pink, or blue hair, either. If the show says these animated ponies are vegetarian, then that’s good enough until they directly say they can’t eat meat.

THEN we can call “bullshit”! Fair enough?
Melancholy™

@Black_Fox

Yes. This. This is like one my biggest pet peeves in the world. Ponies are not vegetarians. They’re herbivores.
“Vegetarian” describes a lifestyle choice made by those who can subsist on either meat or ruffage.
“Herbivore” describes being physiologically and anatomically adapted to eating plant life and nothing else. They don’t get to casually decide they’re going to eat plants for personal or ethical reasons. They either eat plants, or they die.
This is like 6th grade biology stuff, c’mon people~

The proper term for a species that is physiologically adapted for eating plant matter is “herbivore”.

Horses are generally vegetarians, but they can be trained to have a taste for meat. (They can also be trained to have a taste for poisonous plants that cause kidney failure though, so don’t read too much into that.)
