The movie batsuits at least held the neck in a natural position. That armor is forcing him to keep his neck bent back. If he relaxes even a little bit, he’ll probable throttle himself.

Yeah, no kidding. Plate over the neck would hold Shining’s neck almost immobile. Uncomfortable and a choking hazard, as well as holding him off balance.
