I’m willing to bet it wasn’t renewed, but that they signed it on for two full seasons right from the get-go. To be as neutral as possible, a lot of the people involved in making that show have pretty impressive resumes and have worked on some genuinely really funny stuff like The Office and some really genuinely good cartoons like Young Justice. It was probably pitched as a subversive adult take on Scooby-Doo with a very diverse cast, and in an era where subversive adult cartoons are really popular and “woke” content has the built-in audience and the built-in “like it or you’re an -ist” defense mechanism, the studio probably was confident enough in it to sign it for two full seasons, maybe even a full syndication. Them advertising it as “it’s been renewed” is probably just them trying to polish the turd and imply that it’s better than its critics think because “enough people liked it to get it renewed”, to cover up that they grossly underestimated just how bad the critical backlash would be :P

I mean, it did get renewed for a second season because the first was such a huge hit in terms of viewership, but the initial shock has worn off and next-to-nobody gives a shit.

Oh, it’s definitely not woke in the least. The anti-woke people hate the show because it acts like it’s woke, the woke people hate it for doing a really really bad job of acting like it’s woke, and people who don’t care much one way or the other hate the show because it does everything else really really badly too.
It’s a lose-lose-lose for everyone except the execs who profited off the huge initial wave of hate-watchers.

I wouldn’t even consider that show to be “woke”. It’s definitely riding that gravy-train bandwagon to try and play the “buy our product and praise it because if you don’t you’re a literal Nazi” game that so many big corporations do to deflect legitimate criticism while they shovel lowest-common-denominator crap to an audience desperate for diversity and representation, but a series where every character is racist, sexist, stereotypical, and horrible doesn’t work: to quote a guy on Youtube, the Cynical Brit, “If Velma is supposed to represent Indians, then it’s the worst thing to happen to India since the British” :P
