So, the Ninja turtles are Ninja Tortoises according to USA biology term??
No. They are, in the original comic, said to be red eared sliders (though their visual depiction doesn’t really reflect that), a pond turtle and very common petshop species.
Their appearance usually suggests a wood turtle, which lives primarily in streams. The wood turtle is native to the US Northeast, and could easily wind up in the New York sewer system.
