I don’t think of Dinky as a little genius and magical prodigy, but she is quite skilled with magic. In one story I do have her acting as a loving daughter + the adult of the group since Derpy can be a little childish at times.
 
I think of it like the Witchblade anime with the woman who acts as a surrogate parent to the kid she found, forget their names at the moment.
