Also it’s hilarious that this needs to be said, but no, this is not some attempt at making people angry—it’s literally the first thing that came to mind while practicing this expression. I just think it’s funny that so many people get so childish over something so random lol

I’d certainly call Twilight a mary sue as a shorthand for many issues I have with her, because that term’s (d)evolved so much I’m not sure it holds much weigh anymore. Feels like everyone has their own definition, to be honest.
That said, about the picture itself, can’t help but think Twilight being self-aware like this would make a great story. Trying to fight her fate of becoming a mary sue, whether she is one or not in canon, could lead up to some serious shenanigans, and maybe some existential dread too haha.
I’ll admit that as far as ‘first thing that comes to mind when seeing this expression’ goes, for me, it was “you… you’re out of burgers…?”
Like, not even “all my friends hate me!” Straight to borgerz.

You’re far from the only one, it’s just that most of us in that camp regard everything after season 3 as an entirely different show and just kinda roll our eyes at all the stupid stuff while trying to focus on the moments of good writing that still exist (but which became rarer and rarer with every season).

no, i used “mary sue” only because what she’s saying is the first thing that came to mind when i added text to this
she’s more like hopelessly incapable of learning her lesson? it’s like the writers reaaallly wanted to squeeze more content out of her even though she really should know better by now
i mean yeah obviously people still make mistakes but like… trivia episode…
that on top of the fact she just starts to totally lack a personality when she’s not expressing it by showing how flawed she is…plus, she for some reason ascended to godhood and now is far, far above her friends
like am i really the only one that’s super uncomfortable about that?

Starlight is irrelevant. No one brings her up in the argument other than you in order to deflect from blatantly incorrect things you’re saying. And that’s not even including the things you’re clearly ignoring intentionally.
I never said anything about Twilight Sparkle being powerful, you did but let’s use your own post. You literally talked her up to being one of the most powerful things short of what common headcanons like to call (demi)gods. While being powerful is not alone enough to be a Mary Sue it is a very common trait and you hyping her up doesn’t help that “she’s not a Mary Sue” case.
Second, the problem isn’t that she’s powerful but that people around her that should be competent are less so just so Twilight and her friends can shine. Celestia went and turned the Crystal Empire into a test for her. That’s levels of stupid beyond reasoning if this wasn’t a children’s show.
Third, don’t BS me about “Twilight got chewed out”. You’re exaggerating as well as clearly ignoring the time that Twilight intentionally used mind control magic on a doll to cause a fight among children all because of a late paper to her very understanding teacher. Then had it spiral out of control to denizens of the town. She got no punishment and her friends, the older sisters of the children, literally stood up for her and didn’t chastise her.

That’s all I have to say on this because this was just a joke post but people who have to take any excuse just to complain about Starlight Glimmer as if she desecrated their parent’s graves is what genuinely made Derpi unenjoyable.
