The writers don’t need to write an elaborate epiphany. Sprout’s worldview was shared by absolutely everyone else in town except Sunny. That worldview was debunked in front of his eyes. Why would he not change his mind?
Unlike Sunset or Starlight, he never actually had any villainous ambition of any sort. He didn’t plan on becoming acting sheriff. It actually didn’t even occur to him that he was acting sheriff until Phyllis pointed it out to him. Then the town came to him looking for answers and unfortunately he went with the first idea he had.

I think the appropriate term is actually “Shimmered” - as there were numerous personality traits of Starlight’s that carried into season six, and made a logical through-line for her character (not the least of which is her social insecurity, and her tendency to rely on her extremely powerful magic as a security blanket to overcompensate - there’s a reason why Every Little Thing She Does is one of my favorites from S6), whereas the Sunset Shimmer we got in the first EG in no way, shape, or form (other than appearance) resembles the Sunset we got from Rainbow Rocks onward. Not that that’s a bad thing, though - for one, I vastly prefer the latter to the former - but it is noticeable.
Not to re-litigate this point, but there’s a reason I like Starlight much more than Sunset (though I will stress I like them both).
Now, more onto the topic of the image, I can’t comment on Sprout being Shimmered or not, as I have yet to watch Chapter 2, but from what I saw in that one clip compilation released a little while back, he seemed to have a bit of that attitude of “hey, look at me, I’m awesome” borne of his insecurity and ego, but also seemed to have humbled up somewhat, so he seemed on point to me, at least from that.
As for the image itself, love it, and how well it’s set up. If only Pipp had 554k subscribers instead of 454k 😂

Also bring his mom back too who is responsible for making him that way. She should be in that episode as well, unless sprout is just wasted potential.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Sprout has already been Glimmered. Remember how different s5 Starlight was to s6 Starlight? I think Sprout’s personality has been completely bleached already. Besides, I don’t think the new writers are skillful enough to do “epiphany” moments. Writing a character desperately trying to make things right is difficult to do if they’ve never been in that situation themselves.
yeah, sorry, everyone. honest mistake. i might’ve tried to exterminate everyone who wasn’t of my own pony in a murderous and racist rage. hope you can forgive me and not punish me at all.
You see coping, the others see overbearing. But at least you have a understanding pov for her.

No it didn’t but this was the artist’s first thought about a Pipp Podcast.

Yes, i really hope we get an episode at some point where they actually address and talk about it
Would that change someone’s mind though? You probably know who I mean.
Let him who has not tried to burninate the countryside in a badass giant robot cast the first stone.
That last line is oddly sad.
