This took a while (both the art and text for it), but for a long while I wanted to return to this concept of Ocellus and her parents. I really like working with changelings for headcanons.

As I talked about it in older drawings, in my headcanon Ocellus is a direct daughter to Chrysalis and she was meant to be the queen to a new hive after Crysalis’ take over of Equestria. She was adopted by two grub caretakers after Crysalis’ defeat. I am expending on this.

Ocellus’ parents were grub caretakers who were assigned to look only after her. They formed a parental connection with her, so in one incident, when Crysalis found out Ocellus was hiding pony books, they took a risk and got them back for her. Unfortunately, it did get found out and were swiftly punished (mainly Ocellus’ dad, as he took the blame for his mate).
After Crysalis’ fall it was no surprise they officially adopt her as their own.

Additional info:

• Ocellus view the two caretakers as her family even young, as Crysalis was distant and abusive. The only thing really connected to her, is the fear she would end up like her.
• As I talked about it in an older piece, while the queen of the hive lay all the eggs, changeling drones are not related to her or each other. Broodmates neither, but they do view each other as siblings most of the time (like Thorax and Pharynx).
  The two caretakers are from two different broods, and while Changeling drones are sexless and unable to reproduce (changelings choose their gender, and it doesn’t matter in the hive’s hierarchy), they, like other changelings sometimes, formed a mate like relationship.
  After their metamorphoses, they are able to reproduce with one other, so Ocellus’ siblings are the two caretakers biological children.
• While caretakers are from the drone class of changelings, which is the lowest class, even in that there are a hierarchy, and caretaker drones are one of the highest. How high on the hierarchy a changeling is can be seen how unique they are. The lowest drones are look the most identical (blue eyes, wings, ect). The higher we go the more unique the changelings are, like different colored wings, eyes, hard wings, even differently colored mane/tail and shaped hard wings. Changelings from the same brood are in the same hierarchy, expect for one, who is pretty much the ‘runt of the litter’ (Thorax was the one of his).
  The two caretakers were high in the hierarchy as can be seen with their colors (but not high enough for unique hard wing shapes and mane/tail colors).
• Changelings stole artifacts from then nations they infiltrated, so they can study and hide among the enemy better. That’s where the pony books came from, probably some small town on the outskirts of Equestria.
  Changelings lived a more an under the radar life. Not operating in one nation long (or at least taking long hiatuses), so they wouldn’t draw attention to the hive, until Crysalis came along (who was the new queen of the hive), who got over ambitious and though she and her hive powerful enough to take over Equestria, for the powerful magic it has.

I think that’s a lot and enough info for now. Now I just really need to think up a name for Ocellus’ parents, so I can refer to them anything but that or ‘the two caretakers’
